Ever notice those hit and run posters, who only, I assume, lurk, until a pet topic comes up, one that they've got it all planned out how they are going to attack, that it even seems they use their same posts over and over, n ever actually varying in anyway. Copy and paste the same old posts over and over. And then when they feel good about themselves, that they have sufficiently(in their own eyes) beat people down into the ground, they run back into hiding until that same pet topic comes up again.
Ever notice any of these on the BB?

I can think of a few. [IMG] [IMG] [IMG]

I have to say something in their defense though because we never know what it is that motivates people.

Maybe they are only interested in certain topics, or maybe they just want to post on subjects they are completely comfortable with, or maybe they are too busy to post except occasionally and then they pick their topics.

Possibly they are reading without posting unless their particular topic arises on a thread.

I read a lot of threads that are just not interesting enough for me to post on or I simply have nothing to say about that particular topic, or don't feel like I have anything to contribute.

    Blessings,
    Sue

Nope, I've never seen that personally. Does that really happen? I saw the other day, Helen say something to this effect on a topic about clothing appropriatness. I guess I never considered a person's posting numbers to make them suspect.

Is that naive? I have been told before that I am very gullable...because I believe the best in people as a rule.

I read the board extensively every day, but like Sue, I see many topics that I don't feel I can make a contribution to. I don't normally post on the threads that contain deep theological argument, because I'm not really convinced such arguments are useful for much except to argue for the sake of argument, and that is not my thing. When I post, it is usually because I have a question about another post and need clarification, or sometimes I just simply want to state my own opinion.

Erh.. I guess I could fall into the category of "hit and run" posters since I don't post that often. With me, it is more of a time factor -- I often have time to browse various threads but not necessarily enough time to compose a well-thought out post on the subject. Or as others stated above, I might not have something relevant to add to the conversation.

I am refering to people who lurk until they decide to lash out and bash people. Not your average lurker who just wants to read and learn.

Well, Kate, I was accused of following another poster around and correcting her opinions. I don't know how anyone corrects another's opinions, I do know that one can disagree with another person's opinions. When a poster posts in nearly all the forums, it is difficult to avoid them. Maybe this has happened to some others. The accusation should have been made in a PM so I could have answered it properly.

Actually, we never know what is happening behind the scenes. And further, we do not know if that person is just having a bad day. It is difficult to be angry with someone if we pray for them every day.

I admire you for taking a stand. Some people are just not as strong as you are.

Betty, I find it hard to believe that anyone would accuse you of anything like that. I guess that goes to prove my point though...unfounded opinions are often proven wrong.

I find it sad that Christians guess at peoples intentions being bad, rather than believing the best in their character. Even the law of the land says "Innocent until proven guilty".

To tell you the truth, not really. I am, though, sometimes envious of the ability of some people to effortlessly write coherent, reasoned posts on almost every subject (does not necessarily mean that I agree with them). Every one of my posts came after much effort and sometimes on a thread days after it was started. Sometimes I don't post because, by the time I have thought of something, a frequent poster announces he or she thinks the subject is exhausted and the subject should be closed. I just am not as quick as some of you guys.

I disagree with you, Karen ;)

Speaking intelligently, you are very quick. [IMG]

I think sometimes people may stop posting because they don't want to continue with the disagreement or they have stated over and over
again their stand and it seems that no one is reading or understanding their posts. :D

If you don't feel safe telling us who this guy is, then just tell us what color his bow tie is. That way we can all watch out for him.

I suppose I could be called a "hit and run" poster (although I'm not), especially in light of a few recent posts I had made. I have been called quite a few things in the last week and a half or so, but hey, it's just like water off a duck's back; it just rolls right off.

Anyway, I have to agree with a previous poster who said that they don't always have a lot of time to compose a well thought-out post, or reply.

Also, my theological knowledge isn't as "high" as some of the others here, so a lot of times I'll just read through the threads hoping to learn more. In other words, I try not to stick my nose in where I know I lack the knowledge to be informative. And when I do post, I try to post concerning only what I have some knowledge of.

I suppose I might characterize myself as a hit and run poster.
I don't, however, personally attack anyone.
I would say that this board is extremely amiable compared to where I spent the last year and a half.
If you want to see personal attacks, spend a little time on some of the Mormon boards.

Anyone who has ever disagreed with Mormon doctrine is subject to slander and name calling.
There are always a plethora of Mormons who consider themselves to have all the answers to us ignorant unbelievers when we refute their easily refutable doctrines and point out their historical problems.

I soon got to the point where I simply discontinued participation in the ongoing thread and moved on when it became apparent that I was butting my head against the wall on a certain topic and I suppose the habit has stayed with me.
