Just perusing some of the other discussions has led me to ask-

Has there ever been such a thing as a KJVO who also preaches the doctrines of grace (aka "Calvinism")?

I am completely serious. I think the two are antithetical to each other- but I've been wrong before.

Well, there certainly were hundreds of Calvinist preachers and scholars who used the KJB for hundreds of years before the publication of the MVs.

But I know that is not what you are asking, you are asking if any Calvinists are KJVO.

I do not know, but I am very interested in why you believe they are antithetical to each other. Could you explain how you see this?

A guy named Will Kenny. Very much a KJVO(to an extreme) and very much a Calvinist. Goes by the name of brandplucked on some forums.

WK is kind of exceptional in that respect. It's still rather rare for a Calvinist to be a KJVO (I'm not referencing KJVP's).

Mr. Kinney recently re-affirmed on another board that he's both KJVO and five-point Calvinist.

Confirms my assertion that one wrong doctrine keeps a foot in the door for others to come in...

Since the overwhelming majority of KJVO's are Semi-Pelagians and Arminians -- you may have a point.

Will Kenny used to haunt this site until he...well, had to move along due to ....well, I think I'll move along now........

Anyway, I just visited my daughter's church this morning who had an evangelist preach. They are heavy KJVO, the pastor knows I do not agree, but we agree to disagree. The Evangelist was hitting the Calvanist points pretty strong and heavy this morning and the pastor was sitting behind him shaking his head right along.

I do not know why there would be differences in the beliefs, but that doesn't seem to be a problem at their church. In fact, the only belief that I can't accept is the KJVO belief. All other theology is pretty much Biblical. In fact, I am kind of surprised the pastor is so heavy on KJVO, but its obvious he has read Ripplinger and some others due to some of the statements he makes when KJVO issue is brought up. Except for that issue, which is not shoved in your face---they are a good group of Christian Soul winners. We may not agree on translations, but they read the one they use, I can say that for a fact. If some of the other Baptists in town were as serious about God's orders for us Christians we would have some pretty powerful churches around.

Do you mean the pastor behind him was nodding his head right along?

Are you saying that church is for, or against Calvinism?

It's hard to believe that the pastor is sound in his other beliefs when preaching/teaching from the pulpit. His discernment is severely lacking if he buys the junk GR is pushing.

Its one thing to have questionable beliefs. Its another thing to latch on to teachings which are demonstrably false such as GR's are. I could probably handle having a pastor that was KJVO. Not one that bought into GR's stuff though.

I don't think we can understand or even know what is in his heart, BUT:

We are getting entirely off the subject folks. We do not need to be talking about people who are no longer with us and cannot defend themselves; besides, let's stick to the original reason for posting this thread---please!

    Thanks in advance.

The only reason I used GR in describing his KJVO beliefs is that his sign for the church says KJVO 1611 and he uses the words "New Age Bibles" which I think was coined either by GR or somebody contemporary to the time.

A preacher can be accurate on all points of theology and be totally off on a single important theology. We are human and it is my guess that all of us are wrong in certain areas and are going to be quite surprised when we get to heaven.

I can say one thing, this pastor is a Christian, he is not that educated, but he works at spreading the Word of Jesus Christ harder than any other preacher I have seen in this town. He and I disagree on the KJV issue and I respect him and his church by bringing my KJV which is a good translation, just not my easiest to read. I will not disrespect him by bringing in a Bible he has a problem with; I feel this is just Christian courtesy because he knows my beliefs and we agree to disagree and when I am at home I read what I want. I even read simpler Bibles to my grandkids so they will understand and enjoy the stories; otherwise I loose them quite fast with the KJV.

I can say nothing else wrong with his theology and if he believes the KJV is the only Word of God in English, he is simply wrong, but it sure isn't going to send this man to hell.

Rippon I think you can understand what I was saying that the pastor was sitting behind the evangelist and nodding his head and agreeing with him, that's a no brainer.

It's funny that the sign says 'KJVO 1611" when most KJV's are the reworked Benjamin Blayney edition.

No,I doubt that anyone is accurate on all points of theology,or all but one.

You still didn't say if he's a Calvinist or not.

Well, you had said that the pastor in back was shaking his head. That means disagreement. If he was nodding his head he was in agreement.
