This was a recent discussion in a morning cafe. It was an interesting approach by non-Christians. They asked the question, What is the difference between Hitler's solution to the "Jew" problem he faced, and the total destruction of whole nations by the Israelites in the Old Testament? This is the action of a loving God?

I know how I amswered, How would you answer?

    Cheers,

    Jim

Joseph, I quite agree, and I think you appreciate that I had no use for Hitler, having lived through his bombing in London, and having Jewish blood in wife's family. So frightened that they changed their Jewish name to Newman in case Hitler made it to England.

Now, my answer was connected to the attributes of God, including truth and holiness and it was in response to the sin question and obedience to God, and it had nothing to di with the Israelites, who were simply the instruments of divine justice.

    My answer in short.

    Cheers,

    Jim

God was judging sin and Israel was acting under his direct command. Hitler was not judging sin and was not acting under the command of God.

ofcourse none of this makes any positive impression whatsoever on anybody who doesn't believe in God.

You are correct, Mioque. The Gospel is indeed foolishness to those who are perishing. Only God himself can make a positive impression on the lost.

The destruction of nations in the Old Testament all came about as a result of sin.

Jesus came and set us free from Sin and showed us another way to live.

Hitler chose to ignore the gospel and there you have it.

God will raise up all wicked of the nations of the OT and the NT and then "Destroy them again". Rev 20 points this out as the second resurrection that happens AFTER the 1000 years. (The 1000 years that the Bible tells us BEING at the 2nd coming of Christ Rev 19 event, See Rev 19-20:5).

It is all true, all real.

So what is the difference between God doing this and Hitler comitting genocide?

It is the difference between a surgeon doing heart surgery and a gangster stabbing someone.

God's objective is to heal and to preserve life in His Kingdom (the Universe). To do that His Law must not collapse, its penalty must be paid, So "yes" Christ had to die that AS MANY as choose to believe on HIM might be forgiven. Christ the Creator endured the 2nd death BEFORE any human ever will. Hitler can not say that.

Hitler's objective "on the other hand" was to serve his master - Satan.

    In Christ,

    Bob

I thought you were going to talk about the book of Esther, and how she helped to avoid thousands of Jews from being killed by a "Hitler" in her days.

    Esther
    3:13
And the letters were sent by posts into all the king's provinces, to destroy, to kill, and to cause to perish, all Jews, both young and old, little children and women, in one day, even upon the thirteenth day of the twelfth month, which is the month Adar, and to take the spoil of them for a prey.

The short book is a great read.
