Today we visited The Holy Land Experience and had a great time!

I strongly recommend it to everyone! It's educational, entertaining, inspirational and a great alternative to Disneyland!

Some info taken from their website:

The Holy Land ExperienceTM (opened Feb. 5, 2001) is a $16 million, 15-acre “living Biblical museum,” recreating in elaborate and authentic detail the city of Jerusalem and its religious importance between the years 1450 B.C. and A.D. 66 (through the Old and New Testaments, from Genesis through Revelation). It is a total sensory experience that is educational, historical, theatrical, inspirational and evangelistic, blending sights, sounds and tastes that transport guests 7,000 miles away and more than 3,000 years back in time.

. . . The six-story-high Temple of the Great King is a one-half scale representation of the Temple that stood in Jerusalem upon hallowed Mount Moriah in the first century A.D. It was in that Temple that Jesus reasoned with the Pharisees and scribes as a boy. The simulated white Jerusalem limestone and gold-colored filigree on the building reflect the afternoon sun, and in the evening floodlights bathe the Temple's exterior creating an ambience that is both reverential and inspirational.

The purpose of The Holy Land Experience is to share the message of the Bible accurately in its historical and cultural context. Meet some of the personnel of this "living biblical museum" whose highest goal is to have a servant's heart.

The theme park is planning to open the "Scriptorium" in June 2002. It will contain the largest collection of Biblical artifacts in the world, park officials said.

About 12,000 religious artifacts will be housed in the $9.5 million exhibit. The collection is valued at anywhere between $20 million and $100 million.

In the collection are between 10 and 20 Torah scrolls, considered sacred by those of the Jewish faith.

"The park's owner is Hebrew-born Baptist minister Marvin Rosenthal" according to NewsChannel 2000.

I am afraid to go to Florida. I might be sucked into the Disney experience, or get stuck at the beach.

"...the largest collection of Biblical artifacts in the world." - in Orlando???

I hope they're going to have some incredible security for those artifacts! I used to live in Orlando, and don't have too high an opinion of the place. But I'm glad the "park" is open - maybe I'll have a look-see the next time I travel south to see the grandchild. [IMG]

Is it a place kids (8 and 4) would like? Taking the family to Orlando over Memorial Day.

The 8-year-old would probably like it better than the 4-year-old. There is a film and 1 other presentation about the Wilderness Tabernacle where the noise would probably scare both of them.
