In years past here on the BB, I have spoken up against “holy week” observances, as a purely “superstitious” practice, disguised as a religious practice and have been amazed at how many of the “Christians” here, come out of the woodwork to jump down my throat for such sacrilege.

Well the “lenten season” has come around again, but this year I have a new observation to add. The observation is, that almost 99% of these people who will come out in favor of the unbiblical recognition of “good Friday”, are also KJB haters.

Now this has never surprised me, because of the fact that a love of the KJB is usually an indication of a love for the DETAILS of what God’s Word has to say. And any honest detailed look at the Scriptures will point out how truly unbiblical this whole idea of holy week is.

But the new realization that I am adding this year is the fact that these same people who Hate the KJB, will be quick to point out the “so-called mistake”, in Acts 12:4.....
“And when he had apprehended him, he put [him] in prison, and delivered [him] to four quaternions of soldiers to keep him; intending after Easter to bring him forth to the people.”

    ------------------------
Now for sure, the word “Easter” here, is translated from the same GK word that means “Passover” and people are quick to jump on this as a reason not to read the KJB.
While in the same breath, lifting Easter up as the star in the holy week’s crown.
(You either love Easter or you hate Easter, make up your mind.)

Now as I have said before; Although I do recognize Easter as a special day, I also celebrate easter every Lord’s day. And also I don’t see this translation in Acts 12:4, as the big mistake that others do, for 2 reasons.

➀ First, we aren’t Jews; We are Christians. And the man that had been put into prison in Acts 12, was a Christian who was being persecuted for his faith. Therefore it seems perfectly natural to set the precedent here, in that regard.

➁ Also, almost 100 years before the KJB used the word Easter in this verse, it had been used in Tyndale’s Bible.........
V.4 And when he had caught him he put him in preson and delyvered him to .iiii. quaternios of soudiers to be kepte entendynge after ester to brynge him forth to the people.
    ------------------------
I remember someone from the BB, telling me in years past that.... “Any Church that didn’t celebrate good Friday, needed to repent”.

And as usual I am saying, that “Any Church that celebrates good Friday or any of those other Catholic holy week observances, needs a new pastor”.

    Dear brother,

I'm so sorry that you have gone from accusing people (in 2009) of "meaningless worship" because of Palm Sunday and Good Friday observances to now, in 2013 calling those same people "King James haters".

Your contempt for those who observe the Lord's death, burial, and resurrection on special days and in more formal ways in addition to their observing the same year round is very sad to me.

Also, I am sure that you know that once something is on the internet that it's pretty much there for the long haul.

It took me - literally - less than 30 seconds to find your old thread from 2009 and to find the quote of the poster whom you cited as saying to you, "Any Church that didn’t celebrate good Friday, needed to repent”.

All I did was google "site:baptistboard.com stilllearning easter good friday"

The thread you are talking about from 2009 popped up first and the poster, TomVols, whom you are citing was the 3rd one to respond to you. This is what he actually said,

You misrepresent him in your citing only a portion of what he said.

Brother, I urge you to go back and read what people said to you. You received some wonderful counsel in this area. No, one does not have to observe Palm Sunday or Good Friday. BUT, if one does to remember the Lord and exalt His Name and lead sinners to repentance and salvation, how does that make their worship meaningless? How does that make them King James Bible haters?

    CK4 - Roger posted next.

In my opinion this is a poor, accusatory topic and already a pathetic thread. As Admin, I've been asked by two people to shut it down . . but it violates no rule and I will let any comment/read it as they choose.

Neat thing about the BB. You truly DO NOT have to read any thread. You DO NOT have to read posts by a person you continually disagree with. You DO NOT have to agree with anything someone writes. You DO NOT have to comment. And you DO NOT have to whine if someone says something you think ludicrous or just plain stupid.

Hope some do that for me and my posts, rather than get feelings hurt, feathers ruffled and nose out of joint.

But you DO have to love one another as brothers and sisters in Christ.

Apparently there are only two possibilities

    1) you worship the KJV
    or
    2) you hate the KJV

These are probably folks who are bull dogmatic that Christ did not die on a Friday, so observing it any other day would be akin to being a heretic.

I am a "Thursday crucifixion day" myself - but observing on a Friday is not a mortal sin.

KJO folks -if I am wrong - please correct me.

Shoo! That's a relief! A lot of people think of Wednesday as crucifixion day. Glad to know it won't send us to hell!

I am not going to comment on Easter and Good Friday except to say I know how to count 3 days and 3 nights. Anyway, I have always thought Lent was pointless if one thinks they can get God's attention or approval by giving something up, or that it puts them on a higher spiritual plane. Even fasting should be done privately imo. That being said, I could be wrong, according to my wife and two sons, so I am open to someone telling me why they observe Lent.

You are free to observe Lent as long as you also hate the KJV.

Your right Salty, I can’t back this “99%” up.

    But I have never met a person who uses the KJB, who also celebrates good Friday;
    Although there may be.

It's about preparation for remembering the most significant event in Christian history. If you don't want to participate that is fine, don't. To make it about KJV usage is the height of ridiculousness.

There is a good reason people don't use the KJV, there are thankfully better options it has nothing to do with Ash Wednesday, Lent or Holy Week.

Now I can see what happened.

The same thing that happened in Matthew 20.........
V.18 Behold, we go up to Jerusalem; and the Son of man shall be betrayed unto the chief priests and unto the scribes, and they shall condemn him to death,
V.19 And shall deliver him to the Gentiles to mock, and to scourge, and to crucify [him]: and the third day he shall rise again.
V.20 ¶ Then came to him the mother of Zebedee’s children with her sons, worshipping [him], and desiring a certain thing of him.
V.21 And he said unto her, What wilt thou? She saith unto him, Grant that these my two sons may sit, the one on thy right hand, and the other on the left, in thy kingdom.” (Matthew 20:18-21)

Here the Lord was telling his Apostles EXACTLY what was going to happen to Him in Jerusalem......
But at about the same time the mother of James and John came up and made this outrageous request.....
The result was, “no body heard” what the Lord said about His death and resurrection three days later.!

They were so upset by that request, that they didn’t hear what the Lord had said!
    ------------------------
The same thing happened in my OP

    I said........
“Well the “lenten season” has come around again, but this year I have a new observation to add. The observation is, that almost 99% of these people who will come out in favor of the unbiblical recognition of “good Friday”, are also KJB haters.”

And when people saw those words, “KJB haters” their minds shut down and they didn’t pay any attention to the next paragraph.....

“Now this has never surprised me, because of the fact that a love of the KJB is usually an indication of a love for the DETAILS of what God’s Word has to say. And any honest detailed look at the Scriptures will point out how truly unbiblical this whole idea of holy week is.”
    ------------------------
And that is what this entire issue of “holy week observances” is all about.
(How interested are you about “the details of Scripture”!)

Undoubtedly not very much; In one of those old responses someone even said, that they “didn’t care”, what day the Lord died!?!
    --------------------------------------------------
My contention is(and has always been), that those people who are willing to change English translations of the Bible, like they would a pair of shoes, just aren’t interested in the details of what the Bible really says.

And these same kind of people, also don’t care about the details of what the Bible has to say about worshiping the Lord in Spirit and in truth.

For instance anyone who includes something like “lent” into their worship of the LORD, and then can’t explain where the Bible tells them to do it; Are just not interested in rightly dividing the Word of truth.

Pointing out the pagan origins of our man made religious traditions can be hazardous to the religious comfort zone. Everything will be all right if we are sincere. Surely a little idolatry will not matter.

We forget: "It is fearful thing to fall into the hands of the living God.

Carefully consider: The Book of Jude--in any translation or version.

    Even so, come Lord Jesus,
