To me its not about the speaker and his charisma but about the content of the message. I heard plenty of IFB sermons by Charisma and gifted communicators at BJU, but they did not preach faithfully to the word of God. Then I heard some preachers whom others ignored or did not think so highly of and they kept to the word of God.

A good preacher will preach verse by verse or in a expository style, however he will only be good if in the right environment. If he preaches in a church that does not value this, then he will be ignored or removed from his ministry as what happened to a friend of mine whom preached in a very topical and charismatic Calvary Chapel church that did not value this style.

The same for an evangelist. In Denver I have attracted crowds and have not been ignored when I have done street preaching as the audience is different than in the Bible Belt.

    So what say you?

What is your basis that only expositority messages makes a good preacher?

A great pastor can preach topical messages - that will bring credit to the Lord.

A great pastor - is God's man doing God's work in God's way at God's time in God's place.

So praytell me - where does Scripture require me to preach only expository style?

Now that's the soundest comment you've made on BB.

    1 Corinthians 2:1-5 NAS77
1 And when I came to you, brethren, I did not come with superiority of speech or of wisdom, proclaiming to you the testimony of God.
2 For I determined to know nothing among you except Jesus Christ, and Him crucified.
3 And I was with you in weakness and in fear and in much trembling.
4 And my message and my preaching were not in persuasive words of wisdom, but in demonstration of the Spirit and of power,
5 that your faith should not rest on the wisdom of men, but on the power of God.

You should have quit while you were ahead. It wasn't enough to bash your own pastor, then 'lots' of pastors and 'many' pastors now you move on to bash preachers you heard at BJU for not keeping to the Word. Are you serious? I got this figured out. You go to a church in the Bible Belt and find fault. You go to church at BJU and find fault. It seems every where you go to church you find fault. The only common thing in this equation is YOU. Get it?

The Truth of scripture will be good regardless of the environment. Folks are getting saved in countries where the specter of arrest or death is present at any time.

You need to get some new videos on Youtube. Folks weren't even looking up at you let alone forming a crowd. Maybe they define crowds differently in the Mile High city.

Stop bashing preachers. I will stalk you.

We had this feller who claimed he was called of the Lord to attend every funeral and then, while the family was in ear shot, tell the officiating pastor all the things wrong with the funeral message. He'd rant that there wasn't enough said about sin and hell, etc. He was making the rounds.

I got called to a funeral and the director gives me the heads-up on this clown. Sure enough, he shows up just as the family gets seated to make sure everyone saw him coming.

I stepped right up to him and said, "You say one word at this funeral home or at the grave site and I will see to it you understand the word smite without having to use a dictionary. Do I make myself clear?"

He doesn't feel the calling anymore.

He and his hero Paul Washer need to spend some time in the trenches preaching to the same body every week and leading a church week in and week out in fulfilling God's purpose for the church as well as getting personally involved in the lives of the lost in their community.

Lobbing sermons from a distance is the cheap seats. All either one of them do is show their ignorance of ministry. It doesn't take a lot of knowledge to criticize from a distance but it sure takes a lot of hutzpa.

If you ever find the perfect church, don't go there, you will mess it up.

Actually when I did street evangelism last week besides passing out hundreds of tracts I prayed with a woman whom was in need, and spent some time with a sincere seeker and later gave him a book. I also volunteered to give food to a homeless person, but he was not interested in the food, just interested in a buck so he could buy a drink of which I will not support. I am all for spending time with people and praying with others.

Indeed so. There are churches that have great preaching and teaching, but the pastor is a hypocrite. My parents are leaving a long time Reformed Baptist Church for that reason, and are headed to a Reformed Bible church with a much better pastor and nicer people.

Your parents found fault with their pastor? Who'd of thunk it?

So there isn't a decent preacher from BJU to Boulder? Why don't you pack up you and your folks and move to Bellflower CA. Apparently the last perfect preacher lives there.

This is a wonderful notion. If we walk out what our pastor's preach, then we are actively involved in creating the right environment in which he is ministering, thus empowering his sermons. We can actually reach into the future, such that when the pastor gives an accounting, he may do so in joy (Hebrews 13:17).

Of course, the other way of looking at it, is that we in the congregation are entirely passive, and the responsibility rests entirely in the pastor's sermonizing.

Remember, it is Colorado. They call it the "mile high" city for a reason. :)

Stalk the displays of all forms of expressed immaturity.:thumbs:

Kudos for your courage. Unfortunately, sometimes this is means of last resort for some of these self-appointed pontificating critics.

I didn't think folks like you liked the "seeker" type. That is the mission of churches like mine.....you know the one where Andy Stanley is our Lead Pastor/Teacher. Most "reformed" folks "wince" at the thought of "seekers". At least most I have encountered around here in BB land.

But you don't seem to understand the first thing about discipleship.

Paul claimed he was taught by others, including a woman. He discipled Timothy. Who are you discipling? Who do you meet with each week to help sharpen iron? Who do you maintain contact with, whether it be phone, letter, or email? (and I don't mean nameless, faceless, anonymous websites or even Facebook)

Nope he doesn't and he defends it his lack of discipleship. He falsely thinks evangelism begins and ends with simply preaching. Nothing but evangelism from the cheap seats.
