    You are right,Matt...I'm not so interested in the flowery language as I am in the depth of the words and the high view of God that can be expressed through many different words...not just old words.

    Could it ever get any worse than this one from Kathryn Riss ? :eek:

    If you feel too serious and kind of blue,
    I've got a suggestion, just the thing for you!
    It's a little unconventional, but so much fun,
    That you won't even mind when people think you're dumb!

    Just come to the party God is throwing right now,
    We can all lighten up and show the pagans how
    Christians have more fun and keep everyone guessing,
    Since the Holy Ghost sent us the Toronto blessing!

    I used to think life was serious stuff;
    I didn't dare cry, so I acted kind of tough
    'Til the Spirit of God put laughter in my soul,
    Now the Holy Ghost's got me, and I'm out of control!

    CHORUS:

    Now I'm just a party animal grazing at God's trough,
    I'm a Jesus junkie, and I can't get enough!
    I'm an alcoholic for that great New Wine,
    'Cause the Holy Ghost is pouring, and I'm drinking all the time!

    Now I laugh like an idiot and bark like a dog,
    If I don't sober up, I'll likely hop like a frog!
    And I'll crow like a rooster 'til the break of day,
    'Cause the Holy Ghost is moving, and I can't stay away!

    Now I roar like a lioness who's on the prowl,
    I laugh and I shake, maybe hoot like an owl!
    Since God's holy river started bubbling up in me,
    It spills outside, and it's setting me free!

    So, I'll crunch and I'll dip and I'll dance round and round,
    'Cause the pew was fine, but it's more fun on the ground!
    So I'll jump like a pogo stick, then fall on the floor,
    'Cause the Holy Ghost is moving, and I just want MORE

    :rolleyes: :eek: :rolleyes: :eek: :rolleyes: :eek:

    I personaly love this song a lot, because it takes on a special meaning for me. I remember the first time I heard it was right after I got saved. At the time I was heavy with a burdon for my mother. When I heard that song, I just cried and cried. I kept thinking "I don't know were she is, or even if she's alive, but if she is, I surely wish some born again person would throuw out the lifeline to my mama." In my mind I kept seeing this huge ocean and a vauge picture of what I remembered my mom to be. SHe was drowing and crying out for someone to help. From then on when I prayed for her I always asked God to lay it on someone's heart to wittnesss to her. Someone eventualy did, and she got saved. I've never got to meet the person who lead her to Christ, but I'm so very thankful someone did. That someone cared enough to reach out to her.
    Pete, I've never heard that song by Katheryn Riss before sang, but just reading it makes me feel kinda sick. Is that some CCM mess?
    Doctor Bob, I usualy don't have trouble with any of the older words. I know I'm from this younger generation, but the old hymns are precious to me. I've been singing em since I could talk practicaly. And when I got saved, they took on a wonderful new meaning. I'm still "Saved By The Blood." It was His "Marvelous Grace." I'm still "Leaning on The Everlasting Arms." And "Calvary Covers It All." And Praise Him that "There Is A Fountian."
    I love the songs about the blood, and the cross, and His ressurection. I love to sing about Heaven. I love to sign about sould winning. I love to sing about "The Old Time Relegion." cause that's what I got when I got saved. It was the Old Time Conviction, and the Old Time grace. Not todays social gospel.
    The one song I have trouble with is "Jesus Loves Me." because of one of the verses saying "If I love Him when I die, He will take me Home on high." Makes me think of a works salvation almost. Hehe, so for Bible school with my little ones I rewrote the words to it!
    We got new hymnals two years ago, and some of the words are a little diffrent. I'm still stumbleing on some of em, cause I'm not used to seeing it! Like in "Zions Hill." As a friend pointed out, i'm not going to camp, I'm going to dwell! Heaven is my eternal home, not just for awhile!

    I personaly love this song a lot, because it takes on a special meaning for me.</font>[/QUOTE]My dad went to sea most of his working life, so I love the sea-themed hymns. To be fair to Throw Out the Lifeline it does get to the point in the last few verses:

    Jesus is able! To you who are driv’n,
    Farther and farther from God and from Heav’n;
    Helpless and hopeless, o’erwhelmed by the wave;
    We throw out the life line, ’tis “Jesus can save.”

    This is the life line, oh, grasp it today!
    See, you are recklessly drifting away;
    Voices in warning, shout over the wave,
    O grasp the strong life line, for Jesus can save.

    The first time I came across a small part of that song I thought it was just someone having a shot at the "Toronto" crowd. Almost fell off my chair when I realised it was serious :eek: There are "churches" out there that would be kooky enough to use something like that...

    So few new ones on those topics these days...Lucky we have the others to go on with :D

    I rather fear the Kathryn Riss song is not 'taking the Riss' but a genuine product of the 'Toronto blessing'; if any further advert were needed to "avoid if you can", look no further
