obviuosly you know nothing about how poor people live in this country, or what kind of pay they have to work for becasue they don't have an education, or training.

I'm sorry...it seems to escape me...the top ten percent of wage-earners pay how much percentage of all taxes in the US?

Wage earner percentile/Percentage of tax paid:
    • Top 1% paid 39.89%
    • Top 5% paid 60.14%
    • Top 10% paid 70.79%
    • Top 25% paid 86.27%
    • Top 50% paid 97.01%
    • Bottom 50% paid 2.99%

Obviously you know nothing about what I know about. And given that, your concern with the top 1.2% giving back some of their tax breaks to provide healthcare for the poor is amazing. Perhaps some of the folks you speak of are easily duped into voting against their self interests BECAUSE OF that very lack of education.

Taking the high end of $9k/yr, let's divide that by 52 weeks and then by 40 hours. That equates to less than $4.33 per hour, well below the minimum wage. And that is only on the very highest tier.

Oh the red herrings here would feed an army!

For me, there is no class envy...just a matter of equity. How much? How about getting back to the pre-Reagan era tax levels for a start.

Only one issue here, Kemosabe...in other posts, at other times, you've bemoaned a loss of liberties (the Patriot Act comes to mind). Well now, here's a bill that causes HUGE concerns with regards to personal freedoms. Why, all of the sudden, is liberty no longer an issue? Is it because the trust for all things Obama goes so deep that we simply don't worry about it? Or is the "right to healthcare" (there isn't one) a big enough deal that it trumps other rights (rights that actually are enumerated in our Constitution)?

This forgets an important concept: The balance of personal freedoms and government intervention is never static. Constant vigilance must be kept. Especially when we add to the "rights" deemed essential...the right to a living wage. The right to healthcare. The right to a cell phone, and cash for "clunkers." With those "rights" comes more government, and they will push, until someone pushes back.

Furthermore, there has been a subtle yet monumental philosophical shift. In our early days, it was understood that our government merely recognized the rights endowed to us by our Creator. Now...and this is huge...more and more people see the government as the grantor of our rights. Wrong, wrong, wrong. And quite problematic...because it puts government in a position of power that goes far beyond their ability to wield it responsibly.

How do you figure? This is not 5.4% of all earnings. It is 5.4% of earnings in excess of $1-million per year. It is a graduated tax. The tier above $350k is only 1% of earning in excess of that amount.

What freedom will you lose? If you like your current plan, keep it. Do you have a right to a fire department? Police? Roads? No. But they sure are nice. Nothing wrong with improving society to benefit those who are actually doing the work in this country. The wealthy already have benefitted. Let's make it work for all of us. Funny thing...when all of us prosper, even the wealthy prosper. This top down junk never works. Bottom up does.

Regardless of the direction it flows your "equity" is class envy no matter how you portray it. And it is slavery to make someone work to provide for someone else. Add to that all of this is not enumerated in the constitution. At the federal level it is unconstitutional and therefore invalid.

Whatever! Some rhetoric. The redistribution of wealth to the top 1 percent that has been going on since Reagan has destroyed the economy...the goose that laid the golden egg that allowed us all to prosper. I don't care how rich someone gets...good for them...but they owe something back to the free society that made it possible....without which, they would never have had that opportunity.

Under the current system, there is every incentive to send all the jobs you all talk about, overseas. Time to eliminate that incentive by taxing those excess profits to help our own people.

it's obvious from watching your posts that you do not know anything about poor people, and their lives in this country. don't pretend you do.
I see if people don't vote like you, their stupid. And people like you vote to do away with their jobs, cost them more money to live so as they can't afford to live.
I say we aren't the ones who are stupid.

not everyone is fortunate enough to have 40 hours a week, or minimum wage. did you not know that people who depend on farm work are not paid minimum wage, we have a lot of those around here.
ever tried to live on $250. a week? of course not.give it a try and tell us how it works for you, maybe better then it works for people here. but here you may not buy food for the week, you may put your children to bed hungry. and stupid people want to work it so prices go even higher fr the rest of us, and companies have to fire people to keep up their same income for themselves. you seem to think the rich are going to sit back and take it as the government take more of their money, and causes us our lives.
Word came down yesterday, if this health care thing passes, and my husbands boss is forced to provide insurance, she'll close the factory, as she only has personal income at the level as her employees now, if she bought insurance she wouldn't have income at all from the factory. She's been trying to hold out in hopes it would get better, this insurance thing insures it won't get better.
So you tell me, wheres the benefit to us, when we lose our home, when he have no heat in the winter, when we live in our car, when we have no money for food. wheres the benefit for us.
This is the reality of our lives. And raisng prices, and more taxes aren't going to help us not one little tiny bit.
no one ever thinks of poor people in this country, certainly not you.

stupid people in this country are under the impression if you tax the wealthy they're going to lay down and take the loss all on themselves, truth is, they are. we are, they're going to fire people and give less hours of work, and raise prices untill we all pay more, till we're all paid out.

As you have no idea of what I have lived through, you are merely showing your total ignorance and disrespect.

I have never called anyone here stupid. Your conclusions are again, erroneous.

Again, you have no idea what you are talking about. I have lived on far less, so get off your "high horse". If you are not happy with your income, do something about it and quit whining and blaming others.

You have no idea what my income is or has been. You have no clue about what I have lived through, and frankly it's none of your business either. SO again, if you are unhappy in your situation, only you can change it. Your bitter and angry, and it causes you to draw wrong conclusions and try to lash out at others you perceive to be in a better situation than you. Sorry your life is such a mess.

as you've been doing all along?
if you aren't living it right now, you ahve no idea how people right now are living.
    thats ignorance.

under current conditions, meaning you would have to be living that way right now for it to mean anything to this conversation, if not you still have no idea what people are living like right now. you have no current experience under same conditions to compare it with.

more then $275. a week? then again, you ahve no idea, and as far as we've seen you post, you don't care about people with less, of course socialists/communists never do.

people like you are making sure people like us do without, go with homes and food, by taking more then we've got to give.

People here are losing their jobs, and it's going to get worse, people here are struggling to provide food for their children, and it is getting worse, theres no work to be found, we'll seen start seeing more homeless here, and no one with money to help out. when everything costs more it effects everyone, but people with money think it's just hard times, people without know it's life and death.
I know people right now who aren't eating everyday, they're trying to keep a house for their family, I can only give so much, when I can't pay my own bills, or have to skip the grocery store for us, then I don't have anything to share.

I didn't call anyone on this board stupid.

really, the local restaurants are closing down and moving to china? china is going to make my husbands concrete products and ship them over here?
your statement is meaningless for people here as it doesn't apply here in our rural area.

Again, you only show your total ignorance. You have no idea what my situation is right now.

Poor donna. Again, you have no clue, but continue to spout from ignorance. And I am not being facetious...I truly am sorry your situation has made you so hateful and bitter. Do something about it and quit blaming others.
You know something...I will put my charitable work against yours any day. You again are totally angry and clueless. And how much do you think I earn? You are probably wrong. And to call me a communist is just way over the top. This is where that education would come in. You would actually know what a communist is. Have you ever read the Communist Manifesto? I would assume not, but since, unlike you, I don't assert that is fact.

Again with blaming others for your miserable situation. You are responsible for yourself. Not me. Not anyone else.

More ranting and incorrect assumptions. This is getting quite pathetic.

ever lived in a real dump, no heat, rains as much inside as out, no heat unless you stand within 2 feet of the stove(the cat froze to death under the couch, was rock solid when I found him), no indoor water, no bathroom, never enough to eat? well I have, for a long time. if obama and you get your way we'll be going back to it. and worse yet, so will my grandchildren.

Your ignorance is of my situation. You have made incorrect assumptions. That is truth. But it is okay to call me a communist.
