If you follow the link visualize the window where the ladder is erected is my office for the past five years.... but no more. My oldest son, madre and I were trapped on the third floor and just minutes from meeting Jesus face to face. The Lord sustained us and sent angels in the form of two State Troopers and a member of the local fire police. One of the troopers climbed through a first floor window and rescued our 4 month old grandson. Connor and his SpongeBob blanket stilled smelled like lavender - not a whisp of smoke anywhere near him. Our son Joshua is still in the hospital. He does not have any burns but his O2 levels are low and it will take time for his lungs to heal. Our DIL was airlifted to a hospital in Syracuse. She is married to our middle son Aaron who is deployed to Kuwait. The Army got Aaron home and he is with DIL. Jess was taken off the vent this morning and is breathing with o2. Her prognosis is good. madre and I will be fine in a while. We were treated for smoke inhalation and will probably produce some nasty stuff for a week or so. While we are well prepared to meet our maker it is safe to say neither of us is in any hurry to get there. Most of the contents from our living room and kitchen will be recovered but most everything else is lost. It's easy, at first, to say "It's just stuff" until you know everyone will be okay and you start seeing what your stuff means to you. Here's an early praise for y'all. We have a lot of Bibles at home. My wife is a 4th generation PK and has many Bibles from the great preachers in her family. I have two Bibles I'm very fond of: The first is a leather bound large print NASB given to me by my paternal grandmother after I preached her funeral message out of it. The other is a well-worn Ryrie. We have recovered every Bible in the house all undamaged! My preaching Bible was 3 feet from the hottest part of the fire and it is unsinged, unmarked and undamage. I wiped it off with a damp cloth and it does not even have the smell of smoke on it. Sticking out of it was a single page of sermon notes from the previous week (text Isaiah 43:1-4) like the Bible it was not damaged in any way. If you'd like to follow the story as it unfolds and the recovery effort you can follow it on Facebook. I can be found as Dwayne A. Durand. Indicate you are from BB and I will befriend you.
