How a Translator Chooses Words

    Over the years various fad words have developed in English. Last furlough it was "awesome" and "sweet." This furlough it is "amazing." The linguist needs to learn to distinguish between fad words and genuine semantic changes.
    Part of the development of pronouns in 21st century spoken English is the use of the plural "they" for the singular "he" or "she." This appears to still be too colloquial for Bible translators, though.

    I wasn't mentioning fad words;but words that have decreased markedly in use and other words that have filled their place.

    Yes,it's very common as it was centuries ago.

    Wrong,the 2011 NIV uses it. But you knew that anyway.

    You meant :"It appears to still be too colloquial for most Bible translators though." The NIV is once again paving new ground that other translations will eventually use.

    Does all of that mean that you rate it as being more accurate translating what the originals manuscripts were then other 'traditional" versions like NASB/ESV for example?
