several of the reasons that DTS is, imho, the hotest seminary in the US right now are as follows:

    1. They have the highest dollar endowment of any seminary

    2. They are in progress of upgrading and integrating tech effective facilities

    3. Their faculty are well esteemed and some of the more recongizable scholars in the US in their various fields

    4. In terms of professors being able to compile and publish research they seem to have a bit more favorable climate than some other seminaries

    5. Their particular web endorsement of a certain theological position aside, the school is replete with conversation about theology...not stone cold judgment against certain historical beliefs

These are just some of my observations about DTS. I really like the school and find its students to have more of a purposed global mindset for ministry than some other schools in the DFW corridor...

Interesting reasons for picking a seminary....if I were picking a seminary today, I would choose it on the basis of its biblical stand, its commitment to holy living and its mission to train young people for ministry, as well as its strong academics. [IMG]

If I wanted the school which is best endowed, probably Harvard would be my logical choice, but then I would be considered an old curmudgeon to you guys.

    Circuitrider,

... do people really consider a seminary based upon hearsay?

So, why not PTS if you are going for the big endowment? ;o) just asking ...

Nowadays when young men talk about the big endowment of a college they mean the number of women with breast implants....

    Takes cover.

I attended DTS, (MACE, 1998), and was there when the last of the traditional dispensationalist professors retired (Dr. Robert Lightner).

The progressive dispensationalists have taken control of the Theology dept.

Some have called Progressive Disp. an attempt to blend Dispensationalism with Covenant Theology.

I am still a traditional dispensationalist, a la Schofield, Chafer, Walvoord, Ryrie, Lightner, Pentecost, etc.

By the way, I found DTS to be very excellent educationally, and because I was well grounded in what I believe I was not swayed by such so-called progressive doctrines.

The Bible exposition dept. is the best!! Not only do you learn things about the Bible, you learn how to study the Bible for yourself, and how to help others in a local church learn to study it. (Good skills to have!!) Dr. Constable is fantastic, and I had a few classes with Dr. Roy Zuck. He was amazing to watch. How could he cram so much into one class period??

Dr. Lawson in the Education dept. is one of the best educators I have ever known. He was and is a great friend.

All in all, DTS was good for me personally. Very challenging, and the atmosphere on campus was one of genuine concern for each other, from Dept. heads to the newest student.

But you still have to be pre-trib.

Progressive dispensationalism followed to its logical conclusion doesn't require a pre-trib rapture of the church.
