Don't be sorry to step on anyone's toes. They are adults and should be able to defend their view, which I do not think they can do biblically, but I am never sorry for disagreeing with a position that I do not think is biblical.

Actually, there are quite a few Baptist churches with women pastors, mostly not Southern Baptist. However, I have heard of So Baptist churches with women pastors (maybe not as the main pastor). I am not sure how long they stayed in the So Baptist Convention.

Not sure how accurate this is but I found this:

    Thanks for that info.

According to the Bible, I don't see how you can defend a woman pastor.

However this may be "hi-jacking" the OP's thread.

The ones I know need no defense; they are doing well.

I preached as pulpit supply for three churches this summer whose pastors are female. I could see and sense spiritual intensity and a great deal of integrity in the work that was being done.

American Baptists, which both Joseph and I are affiliated with have had churches with women pastors and deaconesses all the way back to the mid 1800s.

There are all stripes of Baptists.

I believe female pastors to be un-Biblical. I'm amazed by this. God gives clear requirements for a pastor in His Word, and none of them pertain to a female, quite the contrary. I would never attend, let alone become a member of, a church with a female pastor.

Nearly 4 years, since planting the work. I was the first member and graciously allowed my first wife to join.

I've been a member of Baptist churches since baptized on Easter 1958. If I wasn't a Baptist, I'd be ashamed. :cowboy:

Yes, but you could say that about many mormon churches as well.

Do we allow God to define what is proper for the church or not?

Not for long...it is my husband's choice. I haven't yet joined, but we have an appointment coming up in order to answer a few questions I have that are part of what is preventing me from having already joined.

It's very different than what I'm currently used to, so there's culture shock on top of a few theological differences. Tomorrow should be interesting. I'm trying to figure out how much of how I feel towards the place is culture shock/past experiences rather than honest differences in beliefs.

Pray for ALL of us tomorrow morning. :saint:
