Does anyone else here collect Bible versions or have any interesting Bibles (because of age, features, etc.) they want to mention?
</font>[/QUOTE]Well, Im in my office, not at home, but in teh vacinity I see:

    NASB Thompson Chain ref

    New Open Study Bible (NKJV)
    NKJV slimline Bible
    NASB Classic Companion Bible
    NIV large print, Slimline Bible
    RSV Red letter reference Bible
    King James Study Bible

That sounds like a cool one. [IMG] I've seen some old family Bibles like this before, but it is pretty uncommon to have both clasps and be a parallel Bible!

I have an interesting KJV parallel as well. It's quite old (can't remember the date, but it's probably less than 100 years old), but instead of being parallel in columns, it alternates the verses, eg. verse 1 from the KJV then verse 1 from the RV, then verse 2 from the KJV then verse 2 from the RV, etc. It's much harder to read this way. [IMG] Also, it was published by the Masons and has a huge all-seeing-eye and other symbols embossed into the cover and throughout the Bible. It would probably make Riplinger faint. ;)

I wouldn't call it a collection per se, but right now I have:

    KJV
    RSV
    NIV
    Modern Language
    Living

Looking for an ESV at Christmas if I don't get it for my birthday in a couple days. I also want to get a NKJV. They don't give any of them away so I appreciate the websites like Bible Gateway that offer many versions.

I'm very fond of one of my KJV's as it was my fathers. It's so full of highlights they are almost meaningless as they outnumber the UN-highlighted passages. It also has little margin notes in my Dad's hand of folks who died or went into surgery or had children (now teens!) that he heard about at Sunday School, church, or prayer meeting. I have not made any marks in it myself except my Grandmother's death this year.

Yes. I have the MLB too (also known as the New Berkley Version). I picked up a pristine hardback in a used bookstore for about $4!

The MLB si an excellent translation, and was used by both the Gideons and Billy Graham association at one time. Its a shame it fell out of publication.

Yes, it was my mother-in-law's mother's I believe.

In addition to some amazing portraits in the Book, it really is a one volume theology/history text, with articles concerning church history, doctrine, and even a history of translation. Amazing!

    Here's my inventory:

    KJV- 1 Thompson C.R. & 1 Scofield
    NKJV- 1 MacArthur S.B. & 1 Reformation S.B.
    ESV
NASB- 1 Reference Bible (my 'church' bible), 1 Inductive S.B. (for making my own study notes) & 1 slimline pocket (carry with me at my work).

Versions that I have but never use are Amplified, NRSV, and CEV. I had a NIV S.B., but swapped it for a Matthew Henry Commentary (pretty good trade, I think ;) ). For some reason, I've never cared for the NIV.

The Scofield is precious to me, not because I value the notes, but because it was my mother's (she passed away last year). Though I use my NKJV, NASB, and ESV most in my studies, I still prefer some readings in the KJV (especially the Psalms).

It's interesting how the most precious Bibles to us are usually those that belonged to other family members. I too have one of these, a little old KJV passed down from my great-grandmother. Out of my entire collection, this one is the most important to me - even though I could pick up a similar KJV at a flea market for 25 cents. [IMG]

As for my collection, I have updated my list again and put it online:

I have a Spanish Bible...sometimes I do my quiet times with it because it offers a new perspective when you have to really concentrate on translating and each word brings new meaning. Definitley wouldnt recommend reading it 100%, but it offers new light to the NIV and NASB I usually read. Not 100% fluent anymore, but working back on becoming again:)

Moffat, JB, NJB, NEB, REB, JBP, TNIV, NIVI,
TEV, CEV, The Message, LB, NLT, GNC, GW, NET,
HCSB, Beck's An American Translation, New
    Evangelcal Translation, JPS, NRSV, Lattimore

Believe it or not I know I left out a few. I've
been collecting Bibles for about 25 years. All of
these are in my office at the church. There are
some companion volumes at the house too. I found
many in used bookstores or on the Internet dirt
cheap and in very good condition.

    Well, all of ours are KJV's but by diffrent publishers. Mine is a Scholfeild study Bible. My grandparents have Nelson study Bibles {whitch is why I was asking about them in another thread}
My dad has a New Scholfeild study Bible, and my brother uses the ones our church printed out. I also have the KJV in spanish. it's a neat way to translate things. I also have the KJV on PC, and it has the greak translations, concordances, cross refrences, and ya'll will probably laugh, but I have trouble understanding how to use those translations in greek, and the cross ref.!
But as ya'll know, they are all KJV's, and that's the way it will stay [IMG]

    Hi Abby,

Now why did you go and mention Scofield? ;) He throws some interesting considerations into the mix.

For example, in the "Old" Scofield KJV, see his marginal note on 1 John 5:7 which says "It is generally agreed that v.7 has no real authority, and has been inserted." Or his introduction, which strongly commends several scholars in the area of textual criticism (including Westcott and Hort!) calling the work of the list of critics "the best textual scholarship". He also mentions the importance of the Sinaitic manscript.

But the "New" Scofield KJV is even more interesting. There are many many changes in the text itself. E.g. In Gen 1:28 in the old says "replenish", in the new says "fill". In Dan 3:25, the old says "the Son of God", the new says "a son of the gods". Most "vocal" KJV-onlyists do not consider the New Scofield to be a true "KJV".

I'm not saying you should consider Scofield KJVs to be trustworthy. They are. But there are differences between all KJVs (from publisher to publisher, from edition to edition, from century to century) - so the term "the KJV" is a bit of a misnomer because one can still ask "which one?" [IMG]

Brian, they have published the New Scofield notes with the traditional KJV text (i.e. unmodified). Oxford Publishing came out with it in 1998.

Well, Cynic, let's see...there's a book called "For Love of the Bible" by David W. Cloud, then there's "Final Authority" by William P. Grady, and "New Age Bible Versions" by G.A. Riplinger, and "Things That Are Different Are Not The Same" by Dr. Mickey P. Carter...just to name a few. Now, of course, we had to get some other "books" to go along with these in order to check out what these authors were saying...but I dare not mention the names of those "books" for fear of this post being deleted as an attack! ;) (Am I beginning to catch on or what?! ha,ha) :D
