I've never been in a choir, but the choir director handed me a book and said to go up front to practice for the song Sunday, so I guess I joined the choir today. [IMG] I'm not objecting, it seems like fun and I do love to sing, just never planned on doing it in front of people.
Anyone else here that sings in the choir?
Oh my goodness. It just hit me. I feel so...churchy. PLEASE tell me I don't have to start saying "God Bless You" to everyone and wearing blue jean jumpers with white short sleeved tops underneath! [IMG]

    Denim jumpers are not required.
However, the choir is a very important part of the service.
I've been singing in the "big" choir for 26 years.

    that's a long time, ain't it.

Was in my church choir (in several different churches) from 7th grade on up. Now I'm the choir director, as part of my responsibilities as a Minister of Music. Thanks for using your talents to serve in a potentially strong ministry in your church. God bless you.

Ok, WHY are there not more people here who sing? Don't be afraid to admit it, we won't ask for a tape! ;)
Would any of you out there go solo on a song in front of everyone if you didn't feel you could sing that great but your choir director asked you to?

I've been singing in the choir since I was 14. At one time I was the alto section. Not the section leader, the entire section. Those were in our bad days. Now, I'm the section leader in the second soprano section..not that I'm really good, I'm just the only one who reads music and can sight read fairly decently. Our person that was leading music never allowed me to ask a question. He always assumed I knew it...my Gramma would laugh at me because I'd start asking a question as soon as the music stopped, before he could say anything.
Yes, I sing solos...it's not always been a joy though..because our old minister of music always singled me out to sing with him, and never gave anyone else a chance.
