From time to time, I hear that such and such a number of people enter hell upon death per day...or is it per hour? I realize this cannot be a hard and fast statistic but has anybody heard of such a thing? Somebody needs the info to make a speech.... thank you. [IMG]

Well just take local figures and build from there. I know that in my community they say 74% of households aren't in church on Sunday morning. That doesn't neccessarily say they're going to hell but I would imagine the figures may be close.

Of the 6.3 billion people alive right now, only 100 million or so even CLAIM to be "born again by faith in Jesus Christ without works".

That is 1 in every 63 people. Startling. Now granted, in some areas 1 in 2 are born again. But in other regions (think Hindu/Buddhist/Islam) it might be 1 in 100,000.

So if, taking the entire world, one million people die this month (I do not know the exact stat), 16,000 would be going to heaven and 984,000 going to hell.

    984,000

    The Narrow and Wide Gates

    Matthew 7:13-14

" Enter through the narrow gate; for the gate is wide and the way is broad that leads to destruction, and there are many who enter through it.
"For the gate is small and the way is narrow that leads to life, and there are few who find it.

Guess this is what this verse is speaking about...

I think when we start guessing the statistics on such things, we start the slippery slope of determining peoples salvation. Scriptural strictly forbids this, so I think it's good to refrain from second guessing.

Here's a brief lesson in Greek symantics. The words thlibo and platus (translated "narrow" and "wide"), were used by those who spoke koine Greek to juxtapose the difficult task and easy task. In essense, they were saying, in their figure of speech, that the way to life is difficult, and the way to destruction is easy. We English speakers tend to dwell on the "small vs large" comparison, but the intended comparison here is "easy vs difficult".

Herein endeth the lesson on Greek figures of speech.

    Dr. Bob...interesting mathematics! Thank you.

Johnv...I hear you - it is not my intent to judge salvation but to startle listeners into realizing how important it is so get the message of salvation out.

Into Jesus...as for Matthew 7:13-14, it seems safe to say (unfortunately) that more will be in the lake of fire than heaven.

    Dear Carolyn,

Sadly it seems you are right, the enemys biggest lie is to convince people he does not exsist.

Two per second fall into hell,
    107 per minute,
    6400 per hour,
    154,000 per day
    365 days a year.

    From the TIME ALMANAC 2003
    World Population 16 aug 2002 - 6,243,990,000
    Birth rate (2001 est) - 21/1,000
    Death rate (2001 est) 9/1,000

    Using those figures:

    1/1000 - 6,243,990
    9x that = 56,195,910 deaths per year
    /12 = 4,682,992 deaths per month
    /30 = 156,099 deaths per day

using Dr. Bob's figure of 62/63rds are lost

62/63 = 153,621 non-saved deaths in the world per day

Note this is the similar to the side of these cities:
    Syracuse, NY
    Patterson, NJ
    Springfield, MO
    Salinas, CA
    Kansas City.KS

each and every day, they die and go to hell

each tick of the clock, one falls into hell
each tock of the clock, another falls into hell
    60 seconds a minute
    60 minutes a day
    30 days a month
    12 months a year.

Won't you mention the Good News to someone today?
