We finnaly got one poster to say that a deacon is not qualified for his office if he drinks to much "non alcoholic wine" ie grape juice.

So I wonder, how much grape juice is too much grape juice?
And is that amount of apple juice ok?

Since you can't get drunk off of grape juice, then what is the limit?

Do you mean to imply by your question that there is no such thing as too much grape juice?

I don't mean to imply anything since it was not my statement. I think when it days deacons should not be given to MUCH wine I believe it means real wine not welches.

ANy practical limit to grape juice is the same for apple juice etc. ANything overboard will cause health problems.
What I want to know is, how much grape juice is a sin and disqualifies a deacon?

Good question but a bit off topic.

    I'll try to answer later

The problem is...having to drink it from all those teeeeeeeeeeny cups...

I started backsliding around the 40th.

    I felt like a full-blown Episcopal by the 50th.

At teeny cup #666, a strange mark came on my forehead.

    It said, "Welch's."

sorry...I'm past the point of taking it seriously. (grin)

How much wood could a wood chuck chuck if a wood chuck could chuck wood, and does that amount disqualify him as a deacon candidate? For that matter, how much ground could a ground hog grind if a ground hog could grind ground, and what amount disqualifies him as a deacon candidate?

Let's get to the point. You have to enter the twilight zone to start wondering what amount of grape juice disqualifies a person for deacon. I'm going to call it like I see it. It's insane to think that's what the verse means.

I know fat when I see it, gluttony on the other hand is a bit harder to define. Was Jesus fat? I don't think so, but he was accused of being a glutton. I imagine many folks that have been blessed with good metabolisms might be guilty of gluttony, myself included perhaps.

Oh, I must have missed that!

I can't keep Welch's in the house because I am too tempted to drink it, drinking nearly 32 ounces (about a liter for our non-U.S. friends) at a sitting!

So you have at least two immoderate juice drinkers!

Considering the caloric content, I'm guessing that more than 16 ounces at a time is pretty excessive.

Wine is much better for me. I'm never tempted to drink more than 4-5 ounces in an evening (with food), and there are health benefits such as antioxidants and increased circulation.

Apple juice is nasty. It might be better as a wine.

You are still wrestling with the idea that wine might mean grape juice, so of course you think its insane.

I think the wine/grape juice/ sinless perfection stuff has been sufficiently squashed. I see no need to keep it going.

There is a reason why the bible says jesting is not convenient. It certainly doesn't edify. I know I like to make a joke, but when everything is a joke, its time to stop talking.

Of course, I don't think ANYONE actually argued for sinless perfection... even though that was the accusation.

James, you are probably right, but I can't resist.

The limit must come when the grape juice you drink turns your temple purple!

1co 6:19What? know ye not that your body is the temple of the Holy Ghost which is in you, which ye have of God, and ye are not your own?

    Got Scripture?

I should point out that the scripture doesn't say 'given to too much wine', it says given to much wine. So the question should be how much is much.

I thought someone posted you can get drunk off of water...so I'm guessing you could also get drunk off of grape juice, too.

How come pasteurized grape juices STILL ferments if left in the fridge too long?
