As the church, and as citizens of this great nation, it is out responsiblility to be currently knowledgable of what is going on in our world, as well as around us. That is why I've posted this little quiz. I'd love your feedback on the attached poll.

This is a terrific test. And it shows your results in a number of ways. It indicates that the majority of Americans don't know what's going on, right around them! No wonder our politicians take such advantage.

This interesting and simple test is astonishing, because it shows that many people got less than half right. These results say that 80% of the (voting) public doesn't have a clue and that's pretty scary, especially with an election year only eleven months away. There are no tricks here -- just a simple test to see if you are current on your information.

So, as a believer, take a minute or two, and test your knowledge on these 13 questions, and then be ready to shudder when you see how others did.

    Don't forget the attached poll!

I admit that I guessed on the current Prime Minister of Great Britain and the Speaker of the House. But I guessed right which means I got them all right. :)

    Good for You, Ann!

I had to guess on the British PM, and in my case, "I chose poorly" (from Indiana Jones and the Last Crusade); which means I missed one! It was interesting, and scary to see just how we rated compared to others, and these will be folks that vote on the most important position in our nation: President!

How do these questions matter as a "Believer"? Does it matter if a "Believer" can identify what one of the co-founders of Apple looks like? Does it make any difference if a "Believer" can figure out where Brazil is on a map, match a photo of a man to the job he holds, or who the British PM is?

No, not a single one of these things matter as a "Believer".

I got 13 out of 13 correct. I pay attention because time is short and the signs are clear that the rapture is imminent.
It is time for Psalm 83 to be fulfilled, as Israel deals a decisive blow to the false god of Islam... and "the world" will give a (temporary) sigh of relief.

    Very Good....

...and I appreciate your comment. IMHO that believers need to know what is going on around us. We need to know Biblical things as well as thsse things in the social setting around us in order to give an answer for both "in and out of season!"

I got 13 of 13...the quiz was easy. I listen to NPR in my daily travels so it was pretty much common knowledge for me.

That said I'm not surprised most Americans didn't do well. We live amongst poorly informed rabble. Ask them who Snookie is and they'll get 100%.

    These quizzes prove nothing IMHO.

So we need to know things like who the founder of Apple was in order to be prepared to preach the Word? Really? I don't think 2 Timothy 4 was talking about us being well versed in the culture around us.

    Thanks for Your Valuable Input...

...It is my humble opinion that Christians need to be well informed of current events if they are going to be responsible when casting a vote for who will represent them locally, nationally and world wide.

Many on this board have taken the liberty of stretching, interpreting and applying Scripture to what they believe and understand the Word to be applicable to! Therefore, I am merely using that same liberty in applying this Scripture to our role in the world in which we live, work and witness!

If we need to be ready to present our views on Scripture "in and out of a season" then IMO the same should apply (by again taking the liberty to stretch Scripture to apply) to things as basic and pertinent to our morals, values, and political stand. We cannot intelligently share our views without a strong understanding of what is going in the world in which we live, work and represent Christ in.

IMO, our civil and moral responsibilities go together (hand-in-hand) with our witness!

IMO that we should not approach something as important as casting votes for our elected leaders (in the local, national and world arenas) being ill-prepared and ignorant and unknowing of what is going on around us.

This little quiz shows that a good portion of our society/nation does lack the basic knowledge of the who's, what's and where's within our society and political arenas?

I think this quiz, and its startling results, will serve to wake people up, and motivate them to become more informed, in and out of season, in order to give a better representation of their witness (as believers), to the nation and world, let alone those we come and out of contact with daily.

    As for your concerns:

    • You don't have to like the quiz.
    • You don't have to like or agree with me or my views (I believe I know your heart on that issue).
    • You don't have to support my reasons for posting it.
    • You are not obligated to take the poll, or even argue your stance beyond what you have already shared.
    • No one is twisting your arm, or holding a weapon to your head.

This post, like any other post, is made for the simple purpose of soliciting opinions, and yours have been duly and appropriately and timely, noted. To continue to submit your objections would be, well.

And in closing, I thank those who have read and participated in the comments and attached poll. All opinions, both supportive and against is what this board is all about. The objective(s) of the board have been met! :applause:

All 13 correct and expected even with how basic the quiz was that most would miss 4-5 at least. And they did.

I was actually pleased with how many (who would even consider taking such a quiz - an obvious minority to begin with) did well.

BTW, I will move any politial thread to this category. This is NOT "Baptist General Discussion"; it is current events or political.

The quiz asked me to identify a couple of people, a couple of countries, a couple of symbols, and some basic statistics that have been in the news almost daily for months. It does not test "knowledge of what's going on in the world". It was basically trivia.

I think that if anyone keeps up with any of the major outlets they can do well on these kinda of quizzes. In listening to NPR and reading a bunch of news sites like I do it is pretty easy to stay on top of things.
