I was talking about my grandparents' marriage to someone today and the things that really leapt out in my mind when I thought of them. Things like when Willie Nelson's song, "Good Hearted Woman" came on, my grandfather would tease and say that it was written about my grandmother. How, even though I did hear them argue and fight, their love was a very visible, tangible thing. EVERYONE knew they loved each other dearly. How they survived a world war, a korean war, their home burning, their son dieing..... and it made their love stronger, not weaker. How, when she died he kissed her and said, "Bye bye, baby girl, wait for me." Then I thought of my best friend telling me that what she missed the most about her father was the way her mother would blush and laugh when he was around and they thought no one was looking. So - how would people remember your marriage?
