Human wisdom, is it opposed to God's way? And is it what keeps men (Humans), from the wisdom of the gospels?

Sherrie, you're preaching to the choir.

Before God we are all equally wise - and equally foolish.

    Here's some more wisdom...on wisdom.

Wisdom doesn't automatically come with old age. Nothing does - except wrinkles. It's true, some wines improve with age. But only if the grapes were good in the first place.
    Abigail Van Buren (1918 - ), 1978

The whole problem with the world is that fools and fanatics are always so certain of themselves, but wiser people so full of doubts.
    Bertrand Russell (1872 - 1970)

One's first step in wisdom is to question everything - and one's last is to come to terms with everything.
    Georg Christoph Lichtenberg (1742 - 1799)

The wisest mind has something yet to learn.
    George Santayana (1863 - 1952)

It is unwise to be too sure of one's own wisdom. It is healthy to be reminded that the strongest might weaken and the wisest might err.
    Mahatma Gandhi (1869 - 1948)

We don't receive wisdom; we must discover it for ourselves after a journey that no one can take us or spare us.
    Marcel Proust (1871 - 1922)

I just thought it so odd, that a man full of so much knowledge and wisdom, won't go to the Lord and repent. Because it is too simple for him.

Yet he sees other humans as such fools for following Jesus Christ.

massdak....ok it is clear you are insulted by me. We (as in all of the people on the board) do not always agree on things. But...just to ease your mind...several times on this board, I posted apologizes to anyone who I may have offended or caused any pain to. But there will be times we will disagree.

Again for the umpteen time, I apologize for anything that I may have done to you personally or as a group. I hope massdak, you will find it in you to forgive me.

This topic has nothing to do with what was posted...and yet I quess it has everything to do with what was posted.

Wisdom Seeker I liked those quotes.

I wasn't really talking about anyone in general with this question, but I was reading 1Corinthians, and it was clear that there were some who just thought they were so wise, that they could not see the wisdom of the gospels. Poor Paul too. He is really trying to tell them.

I guess I am lost. Is there another thread about this question and I missed it?

This is a genuine question. I see a lot of very smart people in this town, and in leadership, and yet none that I have any knowledge of, are christians. And sometimes I see them laugh, and say things like Bible thumper and such. I also see some very smart, and wealthy men in church leadership, be really smart about business, an yet really dumb when it comes to being about the Lord's work.

I am sorry because this topic in no way was to reflect you or your name.

But do you know what I mean about what I am saying. Sometimes it really bothers more than the usual. No matter what you say, they just seem to take their little fingers together and just squish you like a bug. Really makes me sad.

Wisdom is spoken of so often in the Bible I'm not sure where to start. Well...I guess I'll start with my favorite one.

The fear of the Lord is the beginning of wisdom: and the knowledge of the holy is understanding. Prov. 9:10

    Here's some more:

The wise shall inherit glory but shame shall be the promotion of fools. Prov. 3:35

Wisdom is the principal thing; therefore get wisdom: and with all they getting get understanding. Prov. 4:7

Be not wise in thine own eyes: fear the LORD, and depart from evil. Prov. 3:7

When wisdom entereth into thine heart, and knowledge is pleasant unto thy soul; Discretion shall preserve thee, understanding shall keep thee: to deliver thee from the way of the evil man, from the man that speaketh froward things.

There are at least a hundred references in the Bible about wisdom...these are just a few. ;)

I think I understand what you're saying Sherrie. Being a Christian is not the easy road that's for sure. I get a little tired of Christians being considered the fool by societies standards too. It doesn't seem fair that non-Christians are elevated...when Christians are ridiculed. They might laugh...and we have to deal with that. Being a Christian is sometimes completely easy...and sometimes it's like being the nerdiest kid in school. We're easy targets. But at least they don't burn us at the stake anymore...or hang us or any of the other things our forfathers in the faith had to endure.

Count it all joy my friend. Our rewards are eternal.

Sherrie; I posted a thread called "Wisdom" in the Humor Forum. It was a collection of Will Rogers' sayings.

There is a BIG difference between knowledge and wisdom. People can have a lot of knowledge and be very smart and have 10 degrees; but if they have no wisdom, they are no more than educated fools.

    Blessings,
    Sue

Be as wise as serpants but gentle as doves--thus says Jesus!

I've used this verse to "climb into the middle of the ring!"

I've used this verse to "back away real slow and nobody will get hurt!"

Not too hard to follow. I posted the question:

Human wisdom, is it opposed to God's way? And is it what keeps men (Humans), from the wisdom of the gospels?

And we have been talking about it.
