Is anyone familiar with these 168 stories from the Bible by Jesse Lyman Hurlbut ? I just picked it up from my Church library the other day . As far as I can determine it was first published in 1966 . It was designed for children , but it still uses an older style of language ( even King Jamesish at times ) . He said he did not want to inject any doctrinal bias in his retelling of Bible stories . It was not designed to replace the Bible -- it was specfically designed for kids . On the whole as I have gone through a number of chapters , I think it is a useful tool for aiding children . But it needs to be updated for children of the early 21st century .

Yeah, I have a copy somewhere. It was made well before 1966, as I had it while a kid, & I'm about a month away from age 59. I read it again & again.

Yes, I bought an old copy from Ebay. I've seen copies on there from the 20's and 40's. It was published at the beginning of the 20th century.

I own a copy of an electronic version of it. I bought it from Audibles.com I liked it and think it would be great for helping kids learn about the Bible.

When I was a little boy, it made the biblical chars seem much more real to me. Why not update/republish it?

Prolly because Veggie Tales makes it seem more real to today's kids.
