While we are praying for those who have been hit by hurricane Katrina, let's not forget that we have three more months of the hurricane season left. Three of the four storms that hit Florida last year, did so during the month of September. Let's keep praying, but make sure if you are in an area that could be hit by a hurricane to make sure you are prepared.

    TexasSky,

I did indeed miss those stories. I suppose because I don't have a TV and get most my news from the net. Thanks for letting me know some of the good folks got press and not only the looters and shooters.

I was very proud of the Southern Baptist Convention tonight when, as I was watching CNN, they showed a clip of people in Mississipp getting hot food and clean water, and the announcement was, "One of the first to arrive with aide was the Southern Baptist Convention that swooped down on the area with food and medical attention."

Praise the Lord for those willing and able to help!!!!

[IMG] My heart goes out to those in need. It saddens me deeply to know that many of my fellow Americans are clinging for life in hopes of relief. Lord Jesus give them comfort and strength!!! Give them hope and peace that can only come from You!!!

Is New Orleans finished as a city after 287 years?

I just saw a story, on CNN, of a woman who jumped out of a window, into the rising water, to try and find help for her 5 year old son, who was having an asthma attack. The woman, who was in labor, swam for 1/2 hour before reaching a bridge, where a helicopter picked her up and transported her to a hospital in Baton Rouge. She delivered her baby, but has no idea where her 5 yr. old son is. She is scared to death for her child, and rightfully so. It breaks my heart that children may be alone in New Orleans at this moment. I pray that this little boy will be found and reunited with his mother. [IMG]

    From wwltv.com webcast

Superdome evacuation halted due to gunfire at military rescue helicopters. Emergency teams unable to help due to their drugs and equipment being taken at gunpoint.

    Filmproducer,

I don't understand her logic in leaving him, but I hope she finds him and that he survived the asthma attack.

    C4K,

I am sure that the military will have that situation under control very quickly. Some of the refugees made Houston last night.

We've opened up Texas schools to the children so that they can begin to get a sense of "normal" and hope that life will go on. We've waived a lot of the residency and records requirements, and we've scooted the kids in the classrooms over.

It sounds like a war zone - a quote from the wwltv story and the msnbc link -

"We have halted the evacuation until we can regain control of the Superdome."

It is a terrible situation. I am taking cases of soft drinks our Church has donated to one of our area SBC churches that is overloaded with refugees. Three of our larger SBC churches may have to house them for up to 2 months and our local association is trying to help them. I hope to do some volunteer work at the shelters this next week.

I think in New Orleans, the Military and police must take some harsh and possibly lethal action against the thugs halting the evacuation. It is so stupid. These people are going to be infected with water born mosquito related diseases if they remain there.

I don't think New Orleans will ever be the same. Senator Mary Lanreui says there are thousands dead in New Orleans.

    Kiffen,

I think a lot of us tend to forget how hard this must be on the rest of your state. You are all in our prayers though. While other Americans are whining about the economic impact to the nation, we need to keep the rest of Louisiana in our prayers too because you'll certainly bear the brunt of this in the long run.

God bless you, and if you do take those cola's down there, stay safe!

    Is New Orleans finished?

    Is London finished? Not likely.

Time out. This is a request for assistance--worldwide. Send help your money to the Red Cross--marked for Katrina relief.

LadyEagle I read that story as well. [IMG]

People including children do not even have shoes as they are walking through the sewage, debris and toxins in the water and on the ground. There is no drinking water, no place to go to the bathroom, people are wearing whatever clothes were on their back at the time of the hurricane covered in only God knows what. Thirst, hunger, fear, abandonment and complete trauma overwhelms what little hope and strength they have. Mothers cannot feed their children, babies are wearing the same dirty diaper or no diaper. It’s extremely hot and humid. People are dying and their family and friends are helpless and can only watch. Murder and rape are being committed. This is appalling and unimaginable. Most people do not even know if their loved ones are safe. [IMG]

LORD JESUS PLEASE COMFORT AND HELP THOSE IN NEED!!! PROTECT THEM DURING THE NIGHT!!! SEND OUT YOUR LABORERS AND GIVE WISDOM TO THOSE WHO CAN HELP!!!

I lived through Beulah in '67. I thank God this one was not the hurricane we have alays feared hitting New Orleans, but it was close.

I just hope that when NO is rebuilt that they might require a minimum altitude above Sea Level. ...

There are many of us praying for your state. The economic impact will be HUGE.
