    hi.

please recommend good recordings of hymns where the lyrics can be easily understood and the focus is on communicating the message and not on showcasing the talent of the musicians. i haven't yet had a lot of luck with this at record stores. thanks!

brother the best i can think of is a guy named Mark Rogers. he is an evangelist and singer. he plays the piano beautifully and sings better than just about anyone. but he doesn't make records just to hear how good he is. his music is all about glorifying God. here is a link to his website and you can listen to some of the songs.

    Mark Rogers link

you can order his CDs right off the website if you so desire. hope this helps.

    A while back I purchased:

100 Hymns & Praise Classics, Compact Disc [CD]
    Madacy Entertainment Group / 2001
    CBD Price: $19.99
    CBD Stock No: WWCD5127

    from http://www.christianbook.com

Description: Fill your home with majestic sounds of praise with this outstanding selection of beloved hymns. Includes "Holy, Holy, Holy"; "In the Garden"; "All Hail the Power of Jesus' Name"; "Rock of Ages"; "Morning Has Broken"; "A Mighty Fortress"; "Crown Him with Many Crowns"; and many more! Four-CD boxed set.

It has a lot of the good old standards done very well by a small choir. I feel it was $$$ well spent.

My favourites are the "Hymn Makers" series released through Kingsway Music. Some recorded with choir and organ, others recorded with choir and Salvation Army band.

While on the topic of Kingsway Music they also have "The Mandate" CDs. Mandate CDs are recorded live in Ireland so that should give you rough idea of what they sound like. They have a hymns CD but I forget what it is called at the moment. Some of their arrangements could be just a fraction faster.

Also the "International 25 Favourite Hymns" by Brentwood Music. There are 4 of that series, the cover says that it is "Also known as America's 25..etc"

'2nd Chapter of Acts' was very popular for a while. I assume you can still find their music. They sang hymns and old praise songs with no hoopla involved.

Try "At the Foot of the Cross." There have been at least 2 volumes, and they're excellent.

Third Day has "Offerings" and "Offerings 2". Very worshipful and glorifying God.

    WOW worship is pretty good.

"Any Given Day" is also good.

4Him has a great CD on hymns

2nd chap of Acts, Steve Green, and Steve Camp are must haves.

I have one that is called "25 Hymns and Praise Songs." I love it! {That may because it's the only CD that has the ladies singing high enough for me to match my pitch with them! [IMG] } But I think it's really good. It has some beautiful old hymns. Victory In Jesus, Redeemed, Wonderful Words of lIfe, Send the Light, THe Lord is My Shephard, and I don't know what all.

My favorite cds for hymns are in the Indelible Grace series. There are two cds out there with a third in the works. The music is driven by acoustic guitars, and the best thing about it that so many of the hymns were ones I'd never heard growing up. Indelible Grace, and Indelible Grace II: Pilgrim Days. They are both great.

the greatest of all that i've heard is the album "Masterpiece of Praise"!

i have a copy of that, and play it everday! it is, however, sung by a choir instead of one singer. but it comes with great accompaniment using trumphets, piano, etc. it's really great. [IMG] and yes, those are hymns that they sing [IMG]

it's also good to use as a soundtrack [IMG]

i love music by the Wilds and most of the stuff under Majesty Music.

Strictly hymns stuff, if you can get a hold of Hymns Triumphant (two volumes) that is really majestic. [IMG]
