So, this weird guy we went to college with has "found" us, and I wish he hadn't. Long story short, he has called maybe once or twice a year for the past few years and talks non-stop about every little detail of his life, even the ones we really don't care about or need to know about. His wife died and we can't help wondering if there is more to that story than what he's told us. I think he has a mental condition, maybe aspberger's or something. When he calls, we almost have to hang up on him to get away. Trouble is, we can't just not answer the phone all the time, and we never know what phone number he will use as his name never comes up on the caller id. His calling has become frequent and annoying lately.

Even though we moved, he managed to get our new phone number and now wants to come visit. We were never "close" with this guy and don't want to be. I do not want him anywhere near us or our kids. He's just. . .weird. In the years since graduation, he's gotten even stranger. He does not have custody of his own children, which really raises a red flag with us.

I don't know what to do. Even if we block his number or "unfriend" him, we have lots of mutual contacts who will give him our info. He acts like we're great friends or something. Help!

There are sometimes when one must up front with certain people. It may not sound nice, but I fear is the only way.

    Cheers,

    Jim

Nah, it's not you Blackbird. Not THIS TIME!
He calls when dh isn't home, or is studying for a sermon, or is in bed as he gets up early for work, so I'm usually the one on the phone. Maybe dh should call him back and deal with him. Thanks.

Why not do as I did with a pest who wouldn't leave me alone and didn't take hints? Tell him outright what you think of him and tell him to leave you alone. While that won't work with everyone, it worked for me. I haven't heard from him since. I don't like being rude, but with some people it's the only thing that will work.

Was Jesus always polite with people? He told the Pharisees and Scribes that they were vipers and children of the devil. So I don't think telling someone to leave you alone and not bother you again is any more rude than the things Jesus said. Of course, what He said wasn't rude; it was the truth.
