I have a question for ya'll. What would you think of a pastoral candidate who won't give a resume? He claims that the Holy Spirit is telling him not to because it would be boastful. I've known this man since our previous church (he was Associate Pastor there) and he's never settled right with me.

I've seen him try to get into a fight with a total stranger because the stranger had blocked him in to a parking space while the stranger was just waiting on one to open up. The candidate got out of his car and was yelling at this guy and telling him he wanted to fight him. We live in kind of a rough area (not the worst but not the best either) and that could have got him killed.

He also believes you can lose your salvation. I know this through another pastor who's had long talks with him and of course he hasn't preached on that yet but I'm sure it will come up once he's in. I trust what this pastor has told me and based on what I saw him preach on at the other church and a few things he's done at my current church I don't doubt he believes that way. He's got a Pentecostal background and still believes a lot of un-biblical things from that church. A few Wednesdays ago he had us pray for a lady which was great until he told her "you are no longer you, you are your daughter now" and no one seemed phased by it. I looked it up and it's a Pentecostal belief.

There's a lot more that he's done including stuff to my family but it would take too long to go into. I'm really concerned for my church. Most people want this guy. Even our associate pastor says he's got a Jekyll and Hyde personality. This church has gone through 2 pastors in 1 year (that's a story in it's self!) and they're to the point they don't care who they get.

Please pray for this church. I'm afraid for them.

We are a Southern Baptist Church BTW.

If what you are saying about him is true, then avoid him as a pastor by all means.

Believing you can lose your salvation is enough in itself.

I agree Dale. If they hire him I'm out of there. I won't be under his leadership.

Oh I forgot to mention that he will be nominated this Sunday. Thankfully we will have a Question and Answer session with him and I hope it will open some eyes (that's if he will be truthful during it.)

if he isn't truthful, then without a doubt I wouldn't stay if they vote him in. And they probably will, if there been 2 pastors in a year, and they've quickly found this one, and are the point of not caring. Pray a lot by Sunday.

I'd be immeidately suspect of his truthfulness. A candidate should be willing to prove himself worthy. The "boastfulness" claim is a smokescreen, imo. I would categorically disqualify him as a candidate.

Oh trust me I will be praying a lot. This same candidate tried to slip in as a candidate when we were looking for the last pastor. Thankfully the committee (we don't have one this time. We tried to get one together but it was voted down...that's how bad they want this guy and we have 7 other Resumes we could have looked at not including him. One guy even said he feels led to be at our church but we will never know if he was the right one.) put a stop to it the first time.

**let me clarify. We were already down to the last 2-4 candidates when he tried to slip in.

I would think, "He won't give a resume because he has no experience and isn't qualified for the position."

The OP had the following statement in it:

"A few Wednesdays ago he had us pray for a lady which was great until he told her "you are no longer you, you are your daughter now" and no one seemed phased by it. I looked it up and it's a Pentecostal belief."

What pentecostal denomination believes such a thing?
    None that I know of.

Could you give us a reference?

It sounds like he has already given you a resume, albeit a verbal one!

Considering all we've been told, I suspect the real story is that he doesn't want anybody contacting the churches he's been at before.

That's exactly what I thought. And, if that is the case, then any church that would bring a man in under those circumstances might just deserve what they get.

    I'd vote NO!

When I looked it up I can across a pentecostal link through about.com. It's called standing in the gap...

he's only worked for one church and the pastor gave him a good review (he also knew the pastor since high school) he's been looking for a church for the past 14 years and all he's been able to get is an associate pastor job at one church.

I looked up Standing in the Gap ministries and found nothing to suggest it was or was not pentecostal. There is no basis for saying it is a penetecostal belief.

    Given your description...run forrest! Run!

    Get away from him!

Editted to add: I've got money that this guy has some serious junk in the trunk that he doesn't want peopleto know about. Saw this same thing a couple of years ago, there was a "past issue."

First, I’d probably think that I should hold back my laughter, then I would give serious attention to the fact that the people of the church don’t seem to care who they get; AND if I was in any way to part of that decision what I would not only think, but without hesitation clearly say, “As soon as the HS personally tells me to accept you without a resume I will do it, until then, NO THANK YOU!”

I never said it was "Standing in the gap MINISTRIES" just standing in the gap as in a belief. Every website i came across regarding "Standing in the Gap" has been pentecostal with the exception of one.
