I love his writing style. Maybe I should have started elsewhere, like Chrionicles, and I may do that. I am just often drawn there

Starting Isaiah, in the middle of Luke.

Have you ever heard of reading the "Psalms of the day"? You read five Psalms every day. You finish the book each month. Here's how it works.

The first Psalm you read matches the day of the month. Psalm 16 for example. You then add 30 (Psalm 46) add 30 (Psalm 76) add 30 (Psalm 106) add 30 (Psalm 136). In a month with 31 days, read Psalm 119 on the 31st. You can read 1 Proverb according to the day of the month as well, so you read Psalms and Proverbs each month.

As you read, pray some of the Psalm or Proverb back to God. Psalm 16 begins, "Preserve me, O God, for I take refuge in You." Use those words as a prayer to God for preservation though some troubling time, or perhaps as an intercessory prayer for someone else facing a difficult time.

"Praying" the Psalms revitalizes your prayer life. It keeps us from using the same words everyday. Even if we pray for the same things, which isn't necessarily bad, the Psalms give us unique and meaningful ways to communicate those requests and thanksgivings to God.

The best part is that since they are God's own words, we know He is please when they are prayed with a right heart attitude.

    JD,

I have never heard of that before. It sounds interesting.

I just finished Chapter 1 of Joshua and 1 Corinthians. Joshua 1 was really inspiring to me at this time, since I am facing some personal issues in my life, and I need that encouragement from the Lord to be strong and courageous, for the Lord will go before you. I always love reading Paul and how he is so focused on the Word of God and how we should always look to the things of God and reject the wisdom of the world. Good Stuff.

I started in Genesis and am working my way through the O.T. I'll be in Isaiah next. It is amazing how you notice different things each time. I also read in the N.T., of course. I've read through it a couple times while getting to Isaiah. I'm in the middle of Luke now, but I also like to read some of the smaller books between the larger books.

I am convinced that God has intended for us to be obsessed with His word; to read it, study it and live our lives according to it.

It is tragic how little depth of understanding the church has of God's Word.

I am encouraged by your testimony of finding strength and inspiration in His Word. I often find myself stumbling along, not understanding why I feel so bad, and then realize I haven't been reading scripture for several days or more.

His Word has never failed to revive me again.

Hey jd, I've heard variations of that reading plan. It sounds very good...and you are right. Praying the Psalms does wonders for your prayer life.

I think possibly my reading entirely through the Bible this year has come to a screeching halt! I'm not sure I'll ever get out of Isaiah! :D

What a great book! If it's possible to choose, I have 2 favorite chapters...Chapter 40 if you want to meditate on who God is, and Chapter 55 (particularly verses 6-13)!

In previous readings through the Bible, I have found this to be a problem for me (a GOOD problem, of course)...I tend to get "hung up" on a book or a passage, have to stop and look up information about it. I have several commentaries and dictionaries that I use regularly and, although a wonderful experience, it does tend to slow down my reading straight through!
    Absolutely agree!

I read 3 chapters in the Old and 2 in the New aday. That lets me read the Old once a year and New twice .Then I'll read all the Bible commentaries of a Book of the Bible in 12 different Study Bibles .That took me almost 2 years to read threw Acts in all those Study Bible's . And I read a book.Reading a book by Piper now !I usually read about 10-15 pages of a book .I do my reading early in the morning .

I;ll read more of the Bible in the evenings .

I read a chapter out of Proverbs daily. I do that in the mornings. I then spend time on my studies at church during the day. I am going thru the book of Judges on Sunday night with ny youth. I am doing character studies of the judges. On Wed we are looking at the Christian Life. So, I bounce around there. At night I read at least 2 chapters of the Bible. I am currently going thru the book of Ruth.
