    It's absolutely essential. You can't know Him unless He knows you.

    The same way you make sure God does anything else: you don't. God either knew you before the foundation of the earth, or He didn't.

    Real assurance of salvation has one source, the Holy Spirit. The Spirit itself beareth witness with our spirit, that we are the children of God, Rom. 8:16. If you lack that witness, or are insensitive to it, then prayer is your only recourse.

    In my humble opinion your answer may be found in 1st John 2. The last verse in that chapter reads;
    1Jn 2:29 If ye know that he is righteous, ye know that every one that doeth righteousness is born of him.

    Righteousness is ours if we allow Christ to live our life for us. Consider Him in every part of our lives.
    Gal 2:20 I am crucified with Christ: nevertheless I live; yet not I, but Christ liveth in me: and the life which I now live in the flesh I live by the faith of the Son of God, who loved me, and gave himself for me.

    If we live by the faith of the Son of God and not our own. He does know us because He direct's our path.

    If You know Him...He will know you. If He knows you, ...you will know Him.

    By choosing to place your faith, and thats faith alone, and hope for eternal life in HIM.

    If you are in Christ you dont have to worry about that at all.

    Praise God.

    "know" is an intimate relationship (used in the Bible of marital bed). To "know" Christ is to have that relationship.

    The demand of the Gospel was "exhibit fruit of your repentance". Evidently, people had the same problem then as now.

    Big on words (I love God, I'm a child of God, I'm a Pharisee, blah blah).

    Jesus said (in effect) "Where's the beef?"

    The message to the 7 churches:

    Revelation 3:19 As many as I love, I rebuke and chasten: be zealous therefore, and repent.

    If we don't know Him, it's a sure bet that He doesn't know us.
