Can anyone tell me if WinFixer is a virus? It keeps popping up on my computer. Also, Win32 keeps shutting me down after about 3 or 4 minutes.

Does anyone know how to get rid of this? I have AOL's security, and have installed a cleaner to try to get rid of it. My son also wiped the hard drive and reinstalled all the stuff. It helped for a couple of days, then Win32 came back.

    Any advice appreciated!!!

Thanks, LeBuick. I'll have him do it first thing tomorrow.

Be prepared, it takes a good day to go through all the steps.

IF you are on AOL, for Pete's sake put a firewall on your computer!

A software firewall ain't foolproof or bulletproof, but right now you're online buck naked.

    Here's a good, free one:
    http://www.majorgeeks.com/ZoneAlarm_Free_d388.html

It is a 13.6MB download, but definately worth it. Be sure to go through the tutorial that it offers so you'll know how it is working and what to do if it alerts you.

Thanks, Trotter. I'll do it now.

My son went thru the steps LeBuick gave me, and it seems to be OK now.

I'll do the firewall so maybe I won't have any more problems.

    Thanks again.

Be a good idea to lock her down now that you got the nasties out. Also make sure to do your updates on the microsoft site.

PS... Besides keeping unwanted folks out, Zone Alarm is also good at warning you when nasty, uninvited worms and trojans try to phone home. What you will see is a POP up saying a program you never heard of is trying to access the internet. If anything you never heard of or any program you didn't ask to go on the internet appears in a POP up, just say no. It will protect your privacy more than you know.
