If 10% of population is gay... then 90% of sinners are straight. Why judge gays?

The Old Testament prophet pronounces why Sodom was destroyed:

    Ezekiel 16:49-50
Behold, this was the iniquity of thy sister Sodom, pride, fulness of bread, and abundance of idleness was in her and in her daughters, neither did she strengthen the hand of the poor and needy.

And they were haughty, and committed abomination before me: therefore I took them away as I saw good.

Some recent Christian views concerning homosexuality have alarmed me recently. It seems that Christians still find it convenient to pick one specific group of people out of the many different people in the world - and judge them so harshly, and so frequently...

Why do Christians need to soothe themselves, and their own tarnished consciences by targeting one group of people so consistently?

It seems that whatever is wrong in society...

Whatever is bringing our country down...

    it's the homosexuals.

Christians cling to one or two passages from the Bible as if the entire city of Sodom was inhabited by men only...

If roughly 10% of any population is determined to be gay - then why do the other 90% of the sinning population insist on judging the 10%?

Homosexuality is condemned, while heterosexuality outside of marriage is somehow tolerated, or overlooked in our corrupt society as "normal" or "O.K."

Meanwhile - the very people cheating on spouses, murdering their unborn babies, committing acts of sodomy in college dorm-rooms, defrauding corporations, robbing banks, etc... are straight people.

And what act really defines us as a modern-day Sodom in the eyes of many across the world?

HINT: A President, a young intern, adultery, a semen-stained blue dress, and the most famous act of sodomy ever committed in world history.

Where did we go wrong in choosing to judge a low percentage of the people in the world the harshest? Or anyone, for that matter.

Wha?? I've never been in a church that tolerated adultery of any kind or thought it was "normal" or "OK." I've never been a part of a church that stands on the corner protesting or bashing homosexuals.

I disagree. This is not a true statement. You cannot judge a world by a handful of opinions made on a messageboard. What responses you have seen are responses to one topic. But on this messageboard and others, many, numerous, topics about life are discussed.

I know many Christians, and they do not soothe anything by targeting anyone. Their lives are quite full, and in prayer for many things in life, as well as in prayer for many kinds of people. These are the very Christians you do not hear from or about, but silently, careful not to bring attention to themselves they give the Lord God all the Glory, Honor, and Praise. They even pray for you, without you ever knowing it.

I strongly disagree with this statement too!

I think you are talking out the very end you sit down on!

I cling to every Word provided to me by the Lord, in my Bible, and to me in my heart! If you have determined that 10% of the pop. is gay....that makes me the other 90%. Insteading of casting down your opinion of the other 90%, or stereotyping all 90% of these people as judgemnetal, you should look at your ownself!

It seems more that this threads purpose is to rile or invoke the 90% of Christians to an all out arguement with you over this? Are you Homosexual?

Set your eyes on God! Seek the Lord! Be busy about His business and not causing confusion and contempt!

I disagree again! Out-right lie! Neither is tolerated by Christians.

Everyone of them are sinners. There is sin is no less or more.

Where do you come off thinking it is ok for you to be a judge? You were, are maybe even still are, a sinner! Your sins were not less than theirs. You were vile and nasty. God could not even see you. He had to give His Son's blood to wash away your vile, nasty, digusting, filth! You are suppose to remember where you came from so you can talk to others who are lost!

When you say things like this, do not include all Christians. I know many people who are not deserving of any of your remarks!

By the way...homosexuality is wrong! Anyway, shape, or form! It was wrong yesterday, and it is wrong today!

Maybe you misunderstand me. And your points are well taken, also.

But Christians do judge homosexuals severly. Not all Christians, there are some exceptions... But Christianity is particularly cruel to one specific group of sinners? Homosexuals.

Why is this? Especially with the knowledge that 90% of sinners are straight.

By the way - I'm not a homosexual. And I'm not a Christian. I am a follower of Jesus Christ.

Okay, well....I find the wording you used interesting. And I'll try to answer according to my impressions.

First of all it's not any one's right to judge another human beings sin...that is God's job. Some people would disagree with this point...and that's their perogative. But the Bible says that it's God's job...so it's not something that I am going to do. Okay...moving on...

Secondly...the Bible is very clear on the "do not's" and homosexuality isn't the only "do not:" in the Bible. It's also not the only "do not:" that Christians speak out about.

Thirdly...Christians have negative opinions on a great many things. Christians are human...just like everyone else on the planet. Christians aren't all the same, they don't all believe the same, and they don't all deal with people the same.

My Pastor said something, that made it pretty clear how people should deal with any sin, to our congregation..."hate the sin...love the sinner". And if you are a Christian you know that we are all sinners right? A Christian can have a problem with the sin of intoxication, stealing, lying, immorality etc...and we should all love that person, we should pray for them, and with them and let them know that we have charity towards them...but hate the sin. Do you get what I mean?

Some people have a hard time seperating their hatred for the sin from what appears to be hatred for the person. Some people really hate the person too...they shouldn't according to the Bible...but like I said...Christians are just like everyone else on the planet. Some have strengths that others do not.

I don't know if my post helps at all. Just know that I can only speak for myself, and I don't judge anyone. It's not my job.

Yes I agree. I have seen this first hand, and I tell you , I really can't make sense of it either. Other than the points I made earlier.

One of my Adult Bible teachers who is also a deacon in our I.F.B.C., who was one of my first mentors refused to be called "Christian" too. He said the title was presumptuous...He said it is because it means "Christ like" and who among us could ever really be like Christ? It's an unattainable goal. I admired him for that. He calls himself a "follower of Christ" or a "believer in Christ" too. He's one of the most godly men I have ever had the priviledge to know. ;)

Not sure why christian is a bad thing, it is used in the bible and if God used it to write HIs book how can anyone say He is wrong.
1Peter 4:16 does not say it is a bad thing to be called christian, but uses it in a positive way of being a christian.

There were mobs of people in the New Testament who were following Jesus, but they most assuredly were not believers.

A born again believer is a Christian -- by definition. Just because the name is used falsely by many does not negate its true use.

I do not think homosexuality would be so 'targeted' if they did not make themselves targets, not only for Christians, but for the world at large, with 'gay parades', 'gay pride days', demands for 'equal rights' (usually meaning special privileges), and the demand that the disease they, in particular, have been so instrumental in spreading (AIDS) be not only NOT quarantined, despite its deadly nature, but also not even questioned.

If they are going to make themselves targets in this way as well as a number of others, please do not accuse anyone of noticing that and often responding.

IN the meantime, what is bringing our country down is NOT that! 90% could easily overturn 10% if they chose! What is bringing the entire world down is sin nature. However it is expressed.

I'm with you. However, I do recognize that there is no shortage of churches that spean a great amount of time on the homosexual issue, while spending little time on the sin issues in their own pews, such as adultery and the like.

Whoa there. Just because you disagree with the flavor of original post doesn't mean you should imply that the original poster is gay.

They are not tolerated by our words, but admittedly, adultery is often tolerated by our deeds.

You imply that some Christians aren't sinners. I don't think that's what you intended. His statement is certainly no different than others on this board who blame the country's woes on liberals and homosexuals.

I hate to say it, but looking at the overall actions of evengelical Christians in the US, the post has the ring of truth.

One thing to keep in mind is that the more radical gay rights supporters condemn the bare belief that homosexuality is a sin as homophobia, no matter how this belief is acted upon. In other words, to them no one can believe that homosexuality is a sin unless that person is consumed with irrational animosity and fear. This provides much of the basis for the now-common charge that Christians are hateful, cruel, etc. toward homosexuals. Granted that some Christians are in fact acting in an unloving manner, you also have to keep in mind that their opponent's definition of "hate" and "cruelty" are a bit slanted and self-serving.

Why judge sin at all then? Homosexuality is certainly not the only sin, but it is the only one where those particapating in it throw it in oyur face by pranceing all over in those parades and mimicking se*ual acts in public. Of course things like adultry are sin, but no one committing adultry has organized an adultry parade where they prance around scantly dressed. And for the most part no one is arguing adultry isn't a sin either. Most people in other sins(christians), will at some point admit that their activity is sin(even if they do not admit they are committing that sin, they acknowledge it is sin), homosexuals do not. If they did it would require them to try and make a change in their lives.

    I agree DonnA!

Why not a thief parade! All thieves get together and protest for there right to be a thief!

Or what about a rapist parade!

Oh...shucks! Why not just let the homosexual have it all..I won't be here anyway. I walk in a "Supernatural body"! The Body of Christ! And He is coming to take me home! There wont be any anti parades there!

    10% is a Sodomite LIE.

For years that figure was thrown out, and gave credibility to being a "Real" minority (like 10% of Americans are Black or 10% of Americans are Hispanic)

NOT TRUE NOT TRUE NOT TRUE

It was shocking to even liberals when definitive studies showed 1-2% were homosexual or bisexual, slightly higher for males and slightly lower for females.

If someone can find the stats, I'd appreciate it. It was not that long ago (last 12 months I think) but I don't have the original study documents - just my notes that I included in some writing.

BUT DON'T REPEAT THE 10% LIE LIE LIE

    Exactly Sherrie.
They parade their sin and say it isn't sin.

THANK YOU, Katie. That is the kind of FACTS about this perversion that are needed to be heralded.
(An observation from Bob. There are 3 openly gay shows on TV in America out of 198 shows. That is actually very reflective of the sexual orientation.)

We shouldn't think that these displays speak for the whole gay community, any more than Al Sharpton speaks for all Black Christians. I know two gay males who think these types of "gay pride" displays are offensive.

Considering that most marrried people engage in sodomy of one form or another, it's probably more like 95%.

Oh, wait, wrong topic!!! shifting gears.....

Now, if we're talking 10% homosexual otoh, you're right. It's been thrown out for years, and is incorrect (but like a good urban legend, it's hard to kill). The real numbers are closer to 1 to 2 % of the population.

I saw the stats in a hard copy of JAMA, but current issues are not available online. But your figures are correct and verifiable.

Thanks for the verification. It IS hard to get truth out there when myth is touted as valid.

And you KNOW what I mean by sodomy. And so does everyone else. In today's society, non-intercourse sex between a man and woman is oral sex, et al. ANY sex between a man and a man is roughly called sodomy!
