If we believe that Christ was God on earth then it follows that the way Christ lived his life and the way He treated others is the example of how we are to live our lives in relationship with others. He is the model of how our discipleship to him is to be shown in how we live. It is imperative that we enter into both the joys of others, but also their sorrows. It is imperative that we accept help when it is needed and give help to others when they are in need. Christ came to help, to aid, to redeem, not to judge and condemn. “For God did not send his Son into the world to condemn the world, but to save the world through him.” [John 3:17].

I am unfamiliar with Joel Osteen.

But your reply does not add to the OP. What is wrong with helping others, or receiving help?

What is wrong with John 3:17?

You do understand that the word "help" is liberal speak for government interference. It is liberal code language.

So Christ was a liberal. He spoke much about helping others and treating them well.

Rev. what is wrong with helping people?

What is wrong with John 3:27?

Do you believe Jesus came so that the people of the world might be redeemed? All people?

Okay, if I see moneychangers in the house of God, I'll knock over their tables and chase them out with a whip.

Yes, Christ came down hard on those who misused religion. There is a lesson there for all of us.

Now, Alcott, back to the OP. Did Jesus come to redeem or condemn the world?

What is wrong with helping others?

Nothing is wrong with helping others. If you think it's your duty before God to do so and you want to use the government strongarm of force to do it for you, you definitely do not advocate separation of church and state.

How "hard" do you come down on those who abuse religion? Do you follow His example and use a whip? Or is His example not worth following?

Let's stay with the OP topic. You can start a thread on "using the whip" if you would like.

The OP says nothing about the government. So, in your opinion, how are we to carry out the message of Christ in helping each other?

Did Christ come to condemn or redeem?

Your OP refers to Christ as the "model," so shut up about something he did not staying on topic.

The OP says nothing about the government? Okay, but you did make the statement, "So Christ was a liberal." You are not going to make a political statement and then think you can order other posters to say nothing about government-- or if you still try, such will be ignored.

Yes or No: do you advocate using the government to force people against their will to "help others?"

We carry out the message of Christ by doing what he said to do-- go, teach, baptize, help, and a lot more. Or were you putting it all on one aspect only?

Christ said he did not come TO condemn, so he did not. Yet his coming resulted in condemnation for some-- for instance, the scribes who said he casts out demons by Beelzebub and he had an unclean spirit. And there were others, such as: If I had not come and spoken to them, they would not have sin, but now they have no excuse for their sin [John 15:22]. Ever read anything about a double-egded sword?

I've answered your questions. Do you have the decency to answer mine?

And you are so Christ-like in your politeness.

You might notice that Rev said the word "help" is a code word for liberal. So, I was simply showing that Rev would say, because he talked about helping, that Christ is a liberal.

Yes or No: do you advocate using the government to force people against their will to "help others?"

I believe it is better to use tax money to help people than to kill people.

Do you advocate the government to force people against their will to help kill others ... i.e. as in unjustified wars?

Agree there is a lot more ... helping others is a part of carrying out the message of Christ.

Christ came down hard on those who misused religion; pharisees, money changers in the temple. He was very gentle with sinners. There is a lesson there for us. Agree?

    Believed I answered your questions.

What does the last judgement as written in Matthew say? What are the questions asked? What lesson do you draw from those questions?

Thank you very much. More following the example of Christ and His politeness-- e.g., "You brood of vipers!"

    Yeah, I might notice.

    No.

I didn't know there was such a division between "those who misuse religion" and "sinners." I wonder how hard he would/did come down on Paul for his religious boasting in II Corinthians.

    Judgments don't talk.

The only questions were the same, and asked by both those who helped and those who didn't.

That neither group knew what they were, or were not, doing.

You and I are not Christ. I'd suggest we stay on the more polite side.

Well think about sinners vs. those who misuse religion.

Paul just might be surprised at what Christ would say. His disciples were often surprised. You and I would probably be surprised.

And one group did good without thinking about it as being good ... just helping others.

The other group tried to weasel out of their neglect of others by claiming ignorance. Rather a large difference I would say.

Conservatives out give liberals privately in a dramatic way. The people who need to hear the message of Christ about helping people is liberals.

May I refer you back to that OP that you claimed should restrict this thread? You said: "If we believe that Christ was God on earth then it follows that the way Christ lived his life and the way He treated others is the example of how we are to live our lives in relationship with others."

Crabtownboy's way of giving to others involves someone else's money.

His argument for those of us who want to reform welfare is to claim we want to end it.

It is not worth discussing. Leave him in his ignorant hatred.

The way to be like Jesus is through the church and our personal lives, not the government.

Christians have done much to help humanity, they have built hundreds, if not thousands of hospitals. Most charities that help the poor and orphans were started by Christians.

The only reason Social Security was started was because people neglected the biblical command to take care of their elderly parents. The scriptures do not teach that government should be used to help people, show where scripture ever says that.

OK, I agree with you. Is there more? Or, where are you going with this?
