Wondering what publisher IFB churches use for VBS. Anyone use something other than RBP? Their curriculum looks rather boring this year.

Lifeway has a lot of IFB customers. Their theme this year is sports.

Although, it is not KJV...which may cause some hearts of some IFB's to stop beating.

Don't you mean, "...which may cause the brains of some IFB's to stop functioning."

How offensive! Are you saying that IFB's don't have a heart???

I have reported your post. I see no humor in it, nor the one directly above it.

Why does all this slamming have to come in no matter what the OP is about?

To get back on topic...trainbrainmommy: We usually create our own themes for VBS.

Btw....I am of the opinion that VBS needs an overhaul from the ground up...and beginning with the name. We continue to use the same corny material year after year after year. VBS has become irrelavant to most of the children today.

If I remember right Gospel Light VBS was courting the KJVO crowd last year.

I personally like Group's stuff... But I am not IFB.
I know some IFBs that are going with Standard.

As I cannot figure out how to do it, pass the word along to the powers that be to delete my profile/account from this site. Do fast, do it swift, for I do not want to die a member of such a group that embraces legalism and onesidedness.

K, this is probably the least one sided board you will find...
Yes there are legalists here, just like there are others...
That is the fun of debating.. if we all agreed where would be the fun?

BTW, Sue is IFB, but not a legalist.

So tell us...why do ya'll choose to do your own theme? What are the advantages of that? What are the shortcomings?

I'm not really sure, but we've been doing it for a lot of years now.

Well, we can tie it in with the Missions Conference, or revival meeting, or whatever special week that usually follows VBS. We have also changed the name from Vacation Bible School to Neighborhood Bible Study and we have it in the evenings instead of the daytime.

It is not just for kids anymore. The adults enjoy it as much as the kids! We have reached many lost or unchurched families this way. We run several buses to pick people up those evenings.

We have an opening ceremony together. Then the pastor studies the Bible or preaches to the adults in the auditorium, while the kids go to classes geared to their own age group.

It's a lot more work, but I think it's worth it. Actually, it's fun making our own decorations (and brainstorming ideas). Each class does not have to have the same decorations since we're not getting them from a 'program'.

Thank you! This looks very interesting. The church has a round up Sunday (like Friend Day) every year and has many items we could use to decorate. I'll share this with the head of VBS Sunday! Yee ha!

I really was ready to sit down and write our own curriculum.

The VBS material that tiny tim is talking about is from Bogard Press. It is excellent material... we have been using it for about 3 years now. It is very affordable as well. They also have a full SS curriculum as well that we have switched to...very good material...as good as anything that RBP or Lifeway produces in my opinion.

One added benefit to the Bogard Press SS material is that it comes on CD and you can print it without any copyright restrictions. Each CD costs about $25 and includes for example Primary and Junior curriculum on the same CD. Very Cost effective, Quality material. Our teachers Love it!

    Just my $.02.
