III letter about the book called the Horologion

All these things the holy fathers arranged in a most beneficial manner, committed to writing and called the Horologion, They knew that sameness often becomes tiresome to the soul, while diversity and variety in hymnody and the structure of each hour inculcate ardour in it and reawaken its vigilance. For these compelling reasons, handed down to us in this book by the holy fathers, the publication of this Horologion was ordered by the great zealot of piety, the lord, king and great prince Alexis Mikhailovich, autocrat of all Russia, who, spiritual wheat, the food of the word of God, by filling it with printed books. This was done at the advice and with the blessing of his father and intercessor in the spiritual ranks, the great lord Joseph, most holy patriarch of Moscow and all Russia. What was formerly published many times in editions of the Psalter with Services - all the psalms and troparia appointed and included in them - fir grater clarity all these things are now arranged in proper order in deitions of the Horologion, so as to give glory and thanks to the Lord God, the Creatir and Giver of all good things, for the common benefit of all Christians. To this Horologion have been added the calendar of saints, with their troparia and kontakia, and those of the Lenten and Paschal seasons, which complete the order of services in this book. The printing of this divinely-inspired book of the Horologion was begun on the 4th day of the month of December in the year 7160 on the day of the commemoration of the Holy and Great Martyr Barbara and of our Holy Father John Damascene. It was completed on the 17th day of the month of March in the same year, on the day of the commemoration of our Holy Father Alexis, the Man of God, in the 7th year of the pious rule of the reign of the lord, king, and great prince Alexis Mikhailovich of all Russia, and in the 10th year of the patriarchate of his father and intercessor befor God, the great lord Joseph, most holy hatriarch of Moscow and all Russia, unto the glory and praise of God Who is glorified in the Trinity, and to the glory of the most holy Mother of God and all the saints, Amen.
