Came across some stats on the US Military. And since I'm in the business of making polls tonight (while doing therapy and there is NO FOOTBALL) thought I'd see what we all KNOW or at least THINK we know . . .

ANSWERS LISTED AT END OF THREAD - you may STILL do the poll and THEN look at the answers. [IMG]

PLenty of football on Doc. Just tune in to ESPN2 or whoever broadcasts REAL football matches [IMG] . Chelsea are running away with the English premiership.

If soccer isn't your cuppa tea, try rugby football, The Six Nations tournament starts this weekend. I can't wait!

How about Australian football, where no one understands it, but it's still a lot of fun!

I love it, but I wish they'd let the players wear some kind of break-proof mic so I can hear the bones cracking, too. ;)

As for Hawaii's nationhood there are some residents of the Islands who do not recognized the legitimacy of the Annexation. I won't go into the whys and wherefores here. Suffice to say, if the Japanese had had a decent blue water navy in the 1890s and had looked East instead of West, it might have been the Japanese-American War instead of the Russo-Japanese.

My wife is from Puerto Rico. When we tried to get our passports, she needed a birth certificate. So, we contacted the state goverment where we were living to see what we needed to do. When the woman replied that we needed to talk to the Puerto Rico embassy, my wife nonchalantly asked for the number. After looking for a while, she finally said, "I can't find the number", to which my wife replied, "That's because Puerto Rico is part of the US; now, who do I need to call?"

We finally had to call her abuela to run over and get it and mail it to her.

So the Hawaii Independance Movement hasn't been successful yet? Thought that with the union jack in the corner of the flag they had gained their freedom like Australia, New Zealand and some other colonies ..

    Regards
    Bob

The UJ dates from the days when the Kingdom of Hawaii played the Brits and the Americans off against each other. However, by the 1890s London conceded the Islands to the American sphere of influence. So, when the American merchants decided to overthrow the monarchy and push for annexation, there were no Royal Navy ships available to land some Royal Marines to counteract the US Marines landed to support the rebels.

Well, the only diff was the merchants and sugar growers were American and not English. Otherwise, you'd of seen a replay of Fiji.
