WASHINGTON - Vice presidential candidate Joe Biden says today's leaders should take a lesson from the history books and follow fellow Democrat Franklin D. Roosevelt's response to a financial crisis.

"When the stock market crashed, Franklin D. Roosevelt got on the television and didn't just talk about the, you know, the princes of greed. He said, 'Look, here's what happened,'" Barack Obama's running mate recently told the "CBS Evening News."

Evidently the desperation of the anti-Obama forces has gone into overdrive.

Now thats funny, i dont care who you are,

I am a southern redneck with an Arkansas education, and even I knew that FDR wasnt president in 1929, but what I want to know is this.....did everyone have televisions back then? I dont even think there were many, if any in the 40,s.

I think you are hardly one that has demonstrated the judgment to make this kind of assertion. You have spammed this board wit so much triviality and plain old nonsense.

TV's didn't exist at the time of the market crash, if I recall correctly. Biden is well known for saying stupid stuff, and you can't teach an old dog new tricks.

And you are hardly one to make such a nonsensical charge toward me.

    How is this desperation?

Biden is sounding more and more like he is literally not in touch with reality.

And this your pick for VP?

Maybe Obama should cut him loose and get someone else.

What makes this gaffe so funny is why on earth Joe Biden, a classical liberal, would not know that it was the Republican, Herbert Hoover at the helm when the stock market crashed? I mean, isn't the fact that Hoover was in charge at the start of the Great Depression one of the first questions of the liberal cathecism? This would be like Bill James misstating that Babe Ruth and Willie Mays played in the same era. Too funny, just too funny.

You can look at my posting history and see that I have had the good judgment not to post silly irrelevant attacks on candidates. You have not. You have littered this forum with absolutely silly stuff against Palin and McCain. Which means you have no grounds to launch that charge at others.

Let's face it. Biden is known for this kind of stuff. He is a windbag who talks to hear his own voice, who demonstrates little self-control with his speech, and as a result he says stupid stuff.

As I often say (as one who makes a living in public speaking), if you talk enough you will say stupid stuff. But Biden has taken it to an art form.

And there was the perky Katie Couric hanging on his every word...and i'm not so sure she realized what he said either. And this is a potential leader of the free world, and the person so many look to for world affairs. Be afraid...be very afraid!:praying:

One of the attributes shared by most politicians and reporters is a profound ignorance of history.

Just wait until the debate with Sarah Palin. Then we can compare the candidates' grasp on reality.

I can't wait for that, either. You guys have painted Palin as an inexperienced dunce. I figure the debate is Biden's to lose, eh ?

While Biden is an experienced politician, I think Palin is going to smoke him in the debate.

Television was first demonstrated to the public at the 1939 World's Fair and commercial broadcasting was finally authorized by the FCC in July of 1941. At the end of 1941 commercial TV broadcasting was only in a very few cities (New York, Philadelphia and a handful of other Eastern U.S. cities) but the start of WWII ended TV broadcasting and production of TV's. In 1946 after the end of the war, was when televison took off.

Thank you Thomas, I wasnt sure when TV took off, but I was almost certain it wasnt before 1929.

LOL....I dont wanna hear another comment from KenH, crabboy and the other liberals about Palin being a "heartbeat away from being the president".

It is obvious that Biden is lamenting in his fame as a senator and depending too much on others for his wisdom. (or lack thereof)

Never underestimate mom. Even the pretty women have, deep down inside, a side which is, "A mean, vicious, spiteful, straight-razor-totin' woman." Look, she has been reading up on international affairs, etc., for several weeks. Since, like most women, she uses her entire brain at the same time, she has a natural advantage. Hillary would have been better off not imitating the guys.

You must be single. The woman has five kids and a redneck husband. Debate? Ten a day for life. My wife and daughter could bury Biden for the same reason.
