For those who think Obama is fear mongering and using scare tactics to push a socialist agenda, look at the modern day Hoovervilles (called Bushvilles) popping up in America? Perhaps we should ask them if Obama is telling the truth about how bad times are?

Yup. It's really too bad that the dems fought so hard against bank reform. The DOW was more than twice what is is now, when they took over. They can also thank Clinton for shipping most of their jobs overseas.

It's too bad political games ruined so many lives.

Way to go Bro. Curtis, I think you're coming around... Jobs overseas, lack of bank regulation etc...

Doesn't matter to me which party did it, I am neither democrat or republican so I blame both parties. Now for Obama to save the day!!! That's if Timothy Geithner can get his head in the game and show us why we should overlook his lack of 1040 skills...

Obama cannot save a problem his party helped create. We need a Ron Paul approach to American economics.

    You got that right.

Because everyone was for 'deregulation' democrats and republicans bought into this game of semantics........ many now think more regulations will safe guard the economic community: The truth is 'deregulation' did little to change the regulations which already existed. What was 'deregulation' about? It was about removing the restraints which prevented building monopolies of business, industry, financial institutions, and utilities. It is these overgrown consolidated and greedy pigs which have drained the economy for the sake of a few cream skimmers, and have bled their own interest dry..... but have placed the economy and the working public in so much dependancy on them that they make a claim and get the bailouts...... If the bailouts which both McCain and Obama was for, and the recent stimulus plan was something which would work...... we would already be seeing a promising reversal occurring somewhere. The fact that 4 months plus has passed since the bailout and yet are deterirating and progressing to these tent cities ..........is proof that we are not on the path of solution...... but are continuing on a path of destruction.

Did anyone look at the interactive map of unemployment by county which I posted? The areas of greatest unemployment are population centers and areas of industry. The areas in which employment rates are lower or more control....... are areas of the country where more people live close to the land and its resources..... or have businesses involved with these. Monopolies work to tie up and control for gain the resources of all kinds.... economic, labor, land, natural reserves.

From the cited article: "The relatively tony city of Santa Barbara has given over a parking lot to people who sleep in cars and vans.

The city of Fresno, Calif., is trying to manage several proliferating tent cities, including an encampment where people have made shelters out of scrap wood.

In Portland, Ore., and Seattle, homeless advocacy groups have paired with nonprofits or faith-based groups to manage tent cities as outdoor shelters.

Other cities where tent cities have either appeared or expanded include include Chattanooga, Tenn., San Diego, and Columbus, Ohio."

IMO - Tent cities are for show. These cities can't provide an indoor place for these people to stay? You put people in tent cities in order to get media attention so that you can then demand federal tax dollars.

"newcomers who had moved to Reno for work and discovered no one was hiring."

And why would anyone move somewhere first and then look to see if there are jobs there? Could it be that these people are without a job and a home partly because their judgement is not quite what it should be?

Nashville has at least 32 tent cities and nobody in govt put them up for show. Half of the population in these tent cities are children. The estimates right now are that there are 3500 homeless people in Metro Nashville right now. Supplies, staples at local food banks are running very low as people are not donating or are unable to donate like they used to. Food pantries in local churches are running low. Both parties are to blame, so finger pointing ain't helping these people. Granted, most cities have some numbers of a homeless population, but the numbers are growing by the day as people lose their jobs and their homes are foreclosed on. Times are getting bad and I don't think our economics have hit bottom yet.

Sadly, politicians including the WH and Capitol Hill don't have a clue and really don't care as they continue to party on with Little Stevie Wonder, et al - all on the public dole....with borrowed money from foreign entities....

All of these people homeless and look at the things this administration is spending money on. They don't seem to care about it, so long as their pet projects get money.

Obama has said several times that we all have to sacrifice and be willing to "give up something" during these hard times....

What sacrifice has obama made? And what has he given up?

I think what he really wants us to give up is our moral convictions and obedience to God.

    AJ

I forgot...are we supposed to use capital "H" in he and him when referring to obama?

He gave up his Senate seat. He gave up his car (now he has someone drive him around ... it's kind of like taking public transportation). He gave up the big house he used to live in (so he could move into a bigger one with better servants). He gave up going to concerts and movies (now he just brings them to him).

The government could enforce the law against hiring illegals. That would free up several million jobs for people willing to work.

So true, we received about 1/4 our normal request on our last trip to the food bank. They are giving more to places that feed as opposed to places that just give food out. We feed at times but not consistently. We do volunteer at a Mission. You appear to have a worse problem than here since we don't have nearly that many tent cities.

Both parties are to blame which says Reagan was right in that aspect, Government is the problem. I pray this stimulus will generate some jobs so we can get some of these children a roof... :praying:

He raised his own taxes since he makes more than $250K. Sounds like skin in the game to me.

Who is "putting people in tent cities?" These people have no place to go. You would probably be one of the first to say that the government should not help these bums. What do you expect them to do? This is real life. It isn't a political game.

    Stop Kidding Yourselves

The same people OWN both parties. Obama may have started with good intentions but someone 'splaind him and he doesn't want to die.
