Genesis 29:5 refers to Laban the son (ben) of Nahor but we know that he was the grandson.

We find in Genesis 28:13 that God tells Jacob, “I am the LORD, the God of your father [ab] Abraham and the God of Isaac,” (emphasis added) but Abraham was the grandfather of Jacob.

Belshazzar is described as the “son” of Nebuchadnezzar (Daniel 5:22) and likewise Nebuchadnezzar is called his “father” (Daniel 5:2, 11, 18). However, Belshazzar was the son of Nabonidus and hence not even biologically related to Nebuchadnezzar. So, Belshazzar was “son” in the sense of being Nebuchadnezzar’s legal heir.

At the end of the book of Ruth, Boaz and Ruth have their first son, Obed (Ruth 4:13, 17). In verse 4:17, the people declare, “there is a son born to Naomi.” Clearly, Naomi was not the actual mother of Obed but is the mother-in-law of Ruth, who is the actual mother.

In both Matthew and Luke, Zerubbabel is listed as the son of Shealtiel. (Ezra 3:2, 8, 5:2; Nehemiah 12:1; Haggai 1:1, 12; 2:2 also say the same thing.) But in 1 Chronicles 3:17–19 we find that Zerubbabel was actually the son of Shealtiel’s brother, Pedaiah.

Matthew 1:8 has Jehoram listed as the father of Uzziah but there were several generations between these men. The names Ahaziah (2 Chronicles 22:1), Joash (2 Chronicles 22:11), and Amaziah (2 Chronicles 24:27) come between Jehoram and Uzziah.

In Matthew 1:11we read that Josiah is the father of Jeconiah (Jehoiachin). In 2 Chronicles, we see that Josiah is the father of Jehoiakim (2 Chronicles 36:4) and grandfather of Jehoiachin (2 Chronicles 36:8).

So, "you either believe, or remain in unbelief."

(See http://godandscience.org/youngearth/genesis_genealogies.html for a more complete dealing with this subject.)

Different Lightfoot. Ussher's buddy. I didn't note the year you posted, or I would've known. I thought he was born in '01.

I fail to see a critic reasoning anything, and I am just counting, here.
    Count along if you like.

Anyway, the point is that the world is barely over 6,000 years old.

So where does this shocking revelation show that the chronology in Genesis, that I have quoted, for instance, is off?

That the chronologies are NOT closed. You can't count the years and expect to establish an accurate time line. (I thought that should be patently obvious.)

Jesus answered, Are there not twelve hours in the day? If any man walk in the day, he stumbleth not, because he seeth the light of this world. But if a man walk in the night, he stumbleth, because there is no light in him. John 11:9,10 To open their eyes, and to turn them from darkness to light, and from the power of Satan unto God, Acts 26:18

Is the day and night the light and darkness (no light) in these verses really speaking of the earth turning on it's axis?

If the answer is yes so be it. However the answer IMHO is no. They represent
good and evil God and Satan. The same is true in Genesis 1:2-5

In the beginning God created the heaven and the earth.

De facto. I do not believe time even was.

What was the purpose of God from Genesis 1:3 to 1:31

What had God already determined and promised prior to Genesis 1:3 at the very latest?

He created the deep first. That was the heavens and the earth when yet they had no form.

My Genesis account says the following:

In the beginning God created the heavens and the earth. You are saying that this was "the deep"? Is that found in the hebrew.....I don't know hebrew.

One of you is going to have to address my questions, whether openly or in your own mind.

What is the purpose of what God is doing from Genesis 1:3 to 1:31?
Why did God make man? What is man? Thou madest him a little lower than the angels. Why?

He that committeth sin is of the devil; for the devil sinneth from the beginning. For this purpose the Son of God was manifested, that he might destroy the works of the devil. 1 John 3:9 ----- What beginning?

What works of the devil? When were those works begin to be done? Why was the lamb slain from the foundation of the world? How was this lamb, the Son of God, going to me made manifest in the world? Why did God take the woman out of the man created in his own image?

Where was the devil in Genesis 1:1?
Where was the devil in Genesis 1:2?

Why was the earth without form and void and darkness upon the face of the deep?

It's found in the English. The deep, or the waters.

[Gen 1:1-2 NASB] 1 In the beginning God created the heavens and the earth. 2 The earth was formless and void, and darkness was over the surface of the deep, and the Spirit of God was moving over the surface of the waters.

This was before the creation of light.

Is not the "deep" a synonym for the "surface of the waters"?

For this they willingly are ignorant of, that by the word of God the heavens were of old, and the earth standing out of the water and in the water: Whereby the world that then was, being overflowed with water, perished: But the heavens and the earth, which are now, 2 Peter 3:5,6,7

Which chapter of Genesis is that in bold relative to?

Did God change the underlined, which are now, after the flood of Noah?
