I've been invited to preach at a Pentecostal church. The pastor has said he is comfortable with Baptist doctrine and trusts my interpretation of God's word. This pastor is a man that has been praying for me and wishes to encourage me.

Should I do it, being that it is a Pentecostal congregation of believers?

    1) If not, why not?
    2) If so, what should I be on guard for?

I have attended services at this church once at the invitation of this pastor.

    Yes you should.
As long as you preach the Word, it won't matter who's in the congregation. It's God talking to them, not you.

I would be careful where to preach as it will affect future opportunities. But at the same time, the freedom to preach wherever, whenever, whatever is yours.

I have often said I would preach almost anywhere as long as I had the freedom to preach as God led. But I would count the cost of my future service in those choices.

I've been preaching at a Free Church for over a year and have been told by some of my Baptist brethren that I will not be asked to preach for them in the future. Their choice . . based on my choice.

    Count the cost, brother.

If they feel that they don't want you at their church, they are the ones with the problem. As long as you're preaching God's word, it shouldn't matter what church you're in.

Yes, count the cost. It's worth it, if you're following God's will.

Jesus preached in the temple in front of people who did not believe in miracles and folks who were proud hypocrites.

I will preach in a Mormon stake if they are crazy enough to invite me. I would preach in a Methodist or Lutheran church and give them a Wesley and Lutheran message.

I would not take money from them or get into major ministry with them, but heck Pentecostals love my preaching more than Baptists so go for it!

I preach oftentimes at my local church, therefore I don't know what's best approach in order for you to get invited to another church. Any hints? God Bless!

When you attended there, were you comfortable with what they believed and what the pastor preached? That's not a trick question. If you feel that you can preach what God lays on your heart, then I would preach there.

    Praying for you.

maybe if THEY had invited you around more, then you wouldn't have to preach at a Free church (whatever that means). In other words, if they were so concerned, then they should have invited you to preach in their baptist churches. Just sayin'

To the OP: be sure you pray about it. God might use you to work with these people and set them straight about all their "mekka lekka high, mekka hiney hoe" and the "yabba dabba doo!!" (speaking in tongues). the pentacostal folks aren't well-known for biblical education since they think seminary gets in the way of the Holy Ghost. It could be that their pastor recognizes in you an ability to communicate Biblical Truth and he recognizes his own shortcomings. I mean, jumping around, handling snakes and babbling is NO SUBSTITUTE for sound Biblical teaching. I say "go for it", but I'm not God. Please check with Him. In either case, I'll pray for you in this matter.

Nope. I sarcastically drone on no matter how old a thread is.

Yes, and I'm the OP...I even forgot starting it.

I did preach at that congregation and several others since then, while remaining the pastor at the original church I was called to when I began the Lord's work here.

What Admiral Akbar said. "It's a trap!!"

Just kidding. Be sure to tell them that your childhood hero, Fred Flinstone was Pentecostal.

We need to dig this thread up every now and then.
