Yeah , it could be perceived that they are at each other's throats . But the usual thought is that they are contentious folks . I am sure that most Fundamentalists would not want to be known as members of a fighting party . It is good to be contending for the faith once delivered however .

I think when the fighting is for the TRUE fundamentals and the fight is directed against the TRUE enemy, then it may well be an honourable title.

However, if it is used for fighting for preferences and directed against those on our side, then it is dishonourable.

In my experience when a church quits fighting the real enemy, or perceives there is nothing to fight on the outside, they start fighting each other.

We should contend for biblical truth, but make sure you pick your fights wisely... Opinions should never be fought over...Biblical convictions should be stood for to the death.

Just make sure that what you call a conviction has solid biblical backing, and that it is just not a private interpretation based on your experiences or opinions.

Standing for the virgin birth is a Biblical conviction
Standing against men wearing shorts is a private interpretation, or opinion.

Does that not depend on the men who wear the shorts? Some legs just don't need to be seen in public!

Keep in mind, at the end of the apostolic age the church was embattled by persecution from without and subversion from within. Sounds like today? Is Gnosticism back along with other stuff? Error will embrace a vast variety of religious proposition, truth is confined to what the Bible has to say.

With the above said, are we showing the love to others we should show, God showed love to us, so shouldn't we show love to others? If we love them we would want them to see Christ's attitude in us. We would want them to come to a saving knowledge of Jesus Christ. Teach sound doctrine and do it with an attitude of love.

From a time in the Roman Empire the world was brought into the church so the line of world and church is blurred. Yes, there is a time to fight, but there is a time to teach!

I hope that I am not in error by posting this but here goes...........
I believe it was Spurgeon who said, "The church, Militant on the earth and Triumphant in heaven". Now what did he mean by Militant? Is this Prestigious?

    Thanks Bartimaeus
