The other night I was watching a television show called "Faith under Fire" it was a show desighned to debate things of the Bible. That night the topic was "Is God pro-choice", and the arument was that in Deut. some where it says something about not being a person till you breath the breath of life, the Female (not dignified in calling her a lady, or woman) was saying that the Bible makes not stand on the topic of abortion, and that God doesn't consider us alive, and human untill we breath air( I almost threw my t.v. out the window! ), is there any other morons out there that belive this hogwash!?

Well, Rooster, the person was correct (and even there, only somewhat) in only one thing: Scripture does not take an explicit stand on the topic of abortion. It is generally silent on the issue. However, scripture does speak to the topic in an implicit manner. A Christian's stand must come from scriptural implication and interpretation. That being said, scripture is clear that life begins before birth, and clearly referrs to a child at the fetal state of 6 months in utero as a "babe".

God will give anyone just enough rope in the bible to hang themselves if they choose. Take the wine issue for instance. You can show that clearly the bible does not always use wine to refer to alcohol, you can show that drunkenness is a sin, but to the person who chooses to ignore these facts and drink anyway, they feel they are justified by scripture. IMO it shows a general distinction between those who seek God's will, and those who seek to get out from under God's will.

    Jeremiah 1:5
Before I formed thee in the belly I knew thee; and before thou camest forth out of the womb I sanctified thee, and I ordained thee a prophet unto the nations.

If God knew Jeremiah BEFORE he formed him in the belly, at what point did he become a living being? Birth control might be a gray area, I'm not even sure what I think about that right now, but abortion is akin to making our children go through the fire, and is an abomination. It is the way a society who refuses to follow God's commandments tries to clean up the mess caused by sin, and it is just more sin.

Psalms 139 speaks of God knowing us before we are born. I don't see HOW anyone can honestly believe that life begans at birth, IMO.

In Wyoming, it is illegal to destroy an eagle's egg in the nest. Why? It is alive, developing and potentially an eagle.

Thankfully we have no abortuaries here in our state, probably because people here recognize human life, developing, potential is more important than a bird.

I'm not playing advocatus diaboli here, but I don't think that's an accurate comparison. Eagles such as the Bald Eagle are a threatened species (thankfully no longer endangered). It's typically illegal to destroy eagle habitats, including nests whether laden with eggs or not). I don't think too many people would say an empty eagle's nest is the same as a fertilized egg, but I think most can see the reason for keeping it protected.

A radical pro-coicer may read your post and respond to it by saying "it's perfectly legal to destroy chicken eggs" and therefore bolster their view, rather then see the flaw in their view.

It's outrageous to me how many of the pro-death people are the same ones who want to "Save the Whales" or some other species that doesn't mean anywhere near as much as a developing human baby!!!!!

Hey, I am all for a woman choosing what to do with her body. I just don't want her to kill a person in the process.

It always gets me how fired up Christians get on the BB about abortion, but just bring up embryo stem cell research (which requires the destruction of 5 day old embryos) and it's a whole other enchilida. In fact, polls show that 80% of the population supports embryo stem cell research and you know some of that 80% probably covers at least a few born-again believers.

Also, in other threads on the BB that I've been on where embryo stem cell research has come up, few have opposed it and have even argued for it.

Hey Marcia, your favorite person here :D , they don't need to use aborted babies any more [IMG] they have found other means such as blood from an imbilical cord, check out the website below [IMG] , hopefuly it will ease your mind some [IMG] .

Thanks for the info, Rooster. But CA is now going to vote on whether to allow embryo stem cell research and this is still a big issue in the election. I don't know if they are going to buy into the blood from the umbilical cord as a viable option.

There isn't scripture on abortion, but there is scripture on killing the unborn.

    Exodus 21:22-25
"When men strive together, and hurt a woman with child, so that there is a miscarriage, and yet no harm follows, the one who hurt her shall be fined, according as the woman's husband shall lay upon him; and he shall pay as the judges determine. If any harm follows, then you shall give life for life, eye for eye, tooth for tooth, hand for hand, foot for foot, burn for burn, wound for wound, stripe for stripe."

This seems to imply that God considers the woman to be a person (life for life), but the death of the fetus only merits a fine by the woman's husband if he demands one. Taken literally, the miscarriage does not appear to be considered "harm" at all. Although this deals with an accidental killing of an abortion (penalty=fine if husband demands one) versus accidental injury to a wife (penalty=eye for eye, life for life), it clearly has ramifications for the abortion debate because the legality of abortion pivots on whether the fetus has a right to live.

    Is God Pro-Choice?

    YES!

    See Deuteromony 30:11-20.

    See verse 19 especially!
