Own kingdom, that implies you are a king. OR could be a prince, your most trusted advisor, Crabby could be your Jester, and Janet Reno could be queen, LOL....

I heard there is a town named Paducah, Texas, the only other one in the country aside from Paducah, KY, the largest town close to where I live. Ever heard of it?

It wasn't a neo-Confederate romanticist, whatever that is, who started this thread!

    >There's an island in Lake Michigan that I'd love to buy and establish my own kingdom

There is a radar platform in the North Sea international waters which I think is again abandoned.

You all may not know, in FL we already have a separate state. It is called the Conch Republic. (And btw, it is pronounced "conk")

It is not only a place, but a state of mind. They have their own music/poet laureate (Jimmy Buffet) and, apparently, their own national, uhh, er, "weed". We may not be self-sustaining like texas, but they sure enjoy themselves. They even have their own weekend (Monday and Tuesday, because why waste the real weekend?)

Say each of the 50 Provinces Of America was a sovereign State. Say Utah was officially an "LDS" stae, Maryland was officially a "Catholic" state, and Kentucky was officially a "Baptist" state. Also say that there was freedom of travel between the American states and one could take portable wealth between the states.

Exactly who would be harmed and who would benefit? I say that no one would be harmed and everyone would benefit.

Actually if the Constitution were followed each state is essentially sovereign. They yielded limited authority to the Federal government. Sadly DC has ignored the Constitution, at least since FDR, the first socialist president!

Nope. We tried that under the Articles of Confederation. Big time failure.

You boys need to expand your understanding of the Constitution; also the English language. Notice the word essentially, an adverb:

    Essentially
    http://thesaurus.com/browse/essentially
    Part of Speech: adverb
    Definition: basically
Synonyms: actually, approximately, at heart, at the heart of, centrally, characteristically, chiefly,

Small time failure because the big problem was financing the very small federal government. If the federal government was limited to defending the borders, keeping the sea lanes open, and state department only a small percentage of the GDP would be required. No large standing army would be required if we did not have "emipre" ambitions.
