Is the Passion the beginning of the "falling away"?

    Time for another Passion thread! Hurray!

    With all the talk about this film being a heresy... I mean just look at it... it's making money, people (secular and nonchristians included) are talking about it... it's the focus of our nation right now... it's got to be bad! (some sarcasm in that) [IMG] , I have a question:

    Is this the beginning of the great apostasy mentioned in the New Testament? I've seen it referred to as such in other threads (e.g. "This film is a sign of the end times apostasy" and whatnot)... what are your thoughts?

    God bless!

    Dear Brother,
    I don't think we can determine at this point how far out into apostasy we are waded.

    Let's see
    M = 13
    E = 5
    L = 12

    G = 7
    I = 9
    B = 2
    S = 18
    O = 14
    N = 12
    ==============
    82

    82 X 8.12195121951219512195121951219512195 into infinity we get 666.

    Yep, gotta be a connection there. Just think about it. By multiplying it by a number that goes into "eternity" (infinity) we get the MARK. TA-DA (drum-roll please!)

    On the Serious side:
    Dear Bro. Dallas, I have no doubts you are right about this country wading over our heads in apostasy, but I don't think Mel Gibson contributed a whole lot that the mess we are in right now! Sadly, enough, I think we Christians are as much to blame as anybody and that does not include taking our lost friends to see "The Passion". :rolleyes:

    Thank you brother Phillip for the math lesson. I am still slow in math in some ways :D

    I didn't necessarily mean that the gospel according to Mel contributed a great deal to this.

    I remember reading the words of Paul of how that when he departed false teachers would come among the brethren. My reference is to the errors in the church found throughout the centuries.

    Nevertheless, I beleive there has always been true churches of God found as a witness in this world and that Christ has continued to build upon these. That is his promise.

    But, generically speaking, this is probably not the beginning of the great apostasy. I would say that I fear it will lend to the further wading into those murky waters.

    I am Pre-Trib and Pre-MIL. But the more I see each day of how easy Christians will embrace anything, the more I am persuaded that Pre-Trib and Pre-MIL are a worthy hope, but the post prefix is perhaps very likely.

    I do not worry about those things though and trust the Lord to know what is going on at present in his kingdom.

    A thought came to me tonight while at work. Folks are assuming that those opposing the movie would make a full fledged attack upon unbelievers for going to see it. This is not the case. On this forum and in places where we discuss these things with brothers and sisters (see the difference?).

    Here we are speaking as we do because we ARE speaking among and to brethren. We do not mean to be offensive, but we are limited, or at least I am, by our command of language.

    Where I offend you forgive me and pray for me. But remember that we are brethren. I know you do remember this, but consider this may be the reason some seem harsh (myself included).

    I have two brothers in the we always fought like mortal enemies, but whenever the other needed our help we all three stood together.

    Not the beginning, the beginning was when "all that be in Asia" departed from the Apostle Paul.

    Not the beginning, but The Passion is yet another symptom of lack of concern for reverence to Jesus Christ, and for Biblical fidelity.

    Just watched Pasolini's THE GOSPEL ACCORDING TO MATTHEW film on video again...

    ...amazing how he didn't feel he needed to resort to ultra-violence, mystical delusions, and extra-biblical imagination to create a profound and moving depiction of Jesus' life, death, and resurrection.

    To focus on scourging and contempt shows what Mel really thinks of Christ: just a vehicle to trick undiscerning "evangelicals" into funding a fringe cult church and an actor's retirement.
