I'm trying to be fair to the One-Versionists regardless of which version they're pushing. There should be some evidence universal for all One-Versionists, and then, additional evidence for the supporters of each of the various versions for them to use to show they're right. So far, they've failed dismally on both counts, which is to be expected when one uses a man-made theory to try to govern the things of GOD.

Philip, what evidence do you have to a 66 book Bible that does not include the Shepherd of Hermes? Or any of the Apocrapha for that matter? -- Herb Evans

You interested then in verses #1 and #2 and #5 and #6?

I mean anybody can find a song worshiping PRAYER
(hint: Sweet Hour of Prayer) but one that helps us
worship one edition of one Version (or Translation) of
The Holy Bible -- now that is a find indeed ;)

Amen. The one-versionists can't even agree which version is the right one...as for evidence to support their myth, there is none for them to produce.

Right! Just pick a version-any version, one is as good as another. Here's one that is appropriate.

1 Cor. 14:26 How is it then, brethren? when ye come together, every one of you hath a psalm, hath a doctrine, hath a tongue, hath a revelation, hath an interpretation, hath a bible version.

With apologies to the originals -- Herb Evans

The very idea of only one VALID translation seems almost comical now, but it was a serious thing when I first encountered KJVO some years ago. It took some months to get through the argument because of my trust in the KJV.

Even today I only trust a handful of English versions though some others can be useful at times, and the KJV is a clear leader, both in trustworthiness and in terms of a personal favorite.

I'm not saying that the NASB or ESV, for instance, is not as trustworthy as the KJV, just that I find myself running translations by the KJV to check them out, before going to the Greek or Hebrew, if necessary. I think this is because I learned and trusted KJV first, but I can't be certain.

Further, seeing as how there are more than 100 English versions, I suspect at least 80% of them could not be found trustworthy, though some might be found useful.

What? Thousands of Independent Fundamental Baptists are agreed on the KJB. Even the church that Philip once claimed to be a member is KJO. Since the word of God throughly furnishes the man of God unto doctrine, reproof, correction, and instruction. Would you care to solve the issue by only using the Bible itself, without history books, Lexicons, the Greek says, the Hebrew says, the Septuagint says, concordances, or what Professor Whatchamahamaczysz says? Pretend that we are on a secluded island and have nothing but an English Bible. You will be given ample chance to support your myth. Deal?-- Herb Evans

Hey, IveyLeaguer, there is nothing wrong with preferring the KJV for your own personal use. But the notion that the KJV is the only valid English Bible version and the practice of slandering any and every version that is not the KJV are nothing but man-made myths and errors. The KJV is one of my 3 or 4 favorite English Bible versions, but I realize there are errors in the KJV. It seems some have not come to the realization fo this truth yet.

Actually, some of you don't recognize its errors when they hit'em in the face.

Cranston, as you well know, there are some folks out there who select one single Bible version and claim falsely that it has absolutely no errors while they again falsely claim that any version in disagreement must be wrong. They're like the parent who says "My Johnny would never do that!" They are just so blinded by their prejudices that they cannot accept the truth that is right in front of them. The KJV does have errors in it that cannot be attributed to "printers' errors." Folks who refuse to accept the truth that the KJV has errors are like ostriches sticking their heads in the sand. It doesn't make the problem go away but it can't be seen for a while. When folks on this board accept the truth that the KJV does have errors, then they will surely be on the way to truth. Until then they will continue to live in the KJVO myth and will degrade any Bible version that is not their favorote. Sad, truly sad!

Keith, I note that you did not take up my challenge to discuss the Bible issue without your support tools. What are your views on inspiration and preservation using the Bible itself to define them? I have read that if they speak not according to the word, it is because there is no light in them. Philip Roby is unable to do it. -- Herb Evans

If you support the KJVO myth, YOU are not speaking according to the word, as KJVO isn't even hinted at in the text of the KJV itself. And why are ya trying to change the subject to inspiration and preservation? Is it because you have no evidence to support One-Versionism?

Again...Is there ANY evidence supporting ANY One-Versionism?

Philip, Well, I did not refer to KJO talk in my post to Keith; you are the one that is obsessed with the KJO thing. So, where is the word that I am supposed to speak according to? And when we find it, will you or Keith take up the challenge? Or shall we continue in the "We have no BIble today" thing in that the inspired Bible has expired. -- Herb Evans

Rufus, now let us get one thing clear. You are not to challenge their views. It is only permitted for them to challenge yours and mine. That is the only level playing field that they know or will accept. -- Herb Evans

If anyone wants to disprove ANY version onlyism they need not look any further than the Gospel of Matthew. I have yet to run across a version of the Bible that correctly translates the phrase "kingdom of heaven." If you will look at the Greek text the phrase "kingdom of heaven" in this gospel account as well as a mention in John 3, according to the aleph text, should be translated the kingdom of the heavens. The Greek word translated as "heaven" is always plural in that phrase and there is always a definite article in front of heaven.

The phrase is the kingdom of the heavens, but again I'm unaware as to any version that translates this phrase correctly. Wonder why that is?
