(Jerusalem-AP) -- Israeli opposition leader Shimon Peres is
proposing that Jerusalem be declared the capital of the world as
a way of getting around competing Israeli and Palestinian claims
to the city and its holy sites.
An aide says Peres told visiting Russian officials that the
United Nations Secretary General could be declared mayor of
Jerusalem, and could then appoint Jewish and Arab deputy mayors.
Mideast peace negotiators have previously suggested divine
sovereignty or no sovereignty over the chief point of contention
in Jerusalem -- a holy site known by Jews as the Temple Mount and
Muslims as the Noble Sanctuary, where a mosque was built upon the
ruins of the Biblical Jewish Temples.

I "world capitol" that centers around religion? No thanks! Give me church/state separation any day.

Besides, I think Dallas makes a much better capitol. ;)
