BAGHDAD — Iraq's national security adviser said Tuesday his country will not accept any security deal with the United States unless it contains specific dates for the withdrawal of U.S.-led forces.

If the government of Iraq takes an official policy of wanting our troops out, then it is time to leave. Otherwise we are an occupying force.

They should start coming home immediately, without delay. But do the Dems really want to do that prior to this election?

The president is the commander-in-chief. He could start bringing them home immediatelyl, but I doubt he will. His time is so short and with the elections coming up very soon Congress will not touch this issue, other than to jaw, and jaw and jaw about it.

In light of the recent call from Iraqi leaders why wouldn't they?

It has begun already. U.S. aircraft carrier moves from Gulf to back up Afghan operations, under the premise that violence is sharply down in Iraq.

    Agreed.

But whatever the decision by the Iraqis, they must be made to understand that as long as we are welcome, we make our own timetables.

It should be all or nothing. The Iraqis cannot decide our troop levels at any time.

Either we're in or we're out.

I'm not going to argue :).

I've been wanting to bring our heroes home for a while now.

If Iraq's leaders don't want us there anymore then it is time to bring them home.

If Iraq is a sovereign country, then its leaders certainly can.

It should be our position that they can't.

Not if they want us to stay.

Of course, that was already in the part of my quote that you cut out.

Again, if Iraq is a sovereign country its leaders can decide if our troops can even be in Iraq and if so how many of our troops can be there. If our federal government doesn't like it, then it can remove our troops all together.

    What I said.

You like your wording better? OK, but...

Why try to make it sound like a disagreement when it's not.

    No.

It was you that chose to use only part of my quote so that you could make an issue out of it that wasn't there.

Disagreement even if you have to fake it, huh?

You're hardly in a position to ask such a question.

Do you have any original thoughts on this subject?

So far all you've done is repeat mine?

I do appreciate it, but an original thought (if you have any) might actually advance the discussion.
