I know, you are right. After hearing lyrics like "I want to hold your hand", "She loves you, yeah, yeah, yeah" and "Baby, you can drive my car", I know I wanted to go out and commit all kinds of sinful acts!

What do you believe "Drive my Car" is about, if it is not about sinful acts?

The press officer for the Beatles, Derek Taylor, said, "They're COMPLETELY ANTI-CHRIST. I mean, I am anti-Christ as well, but they're so anti-Christ they shock me which isn't an easy thing." (Saturday Evening Post, Aug. 8, 1964).
Paul McCartney said, "We probably seem to be anti-religious. . . none of us believes in God." (Hit Parader, Jan 1970, p.15)

John Lennon, in his book, A Spaniard in the Works, portrays Jesus Christ as, "Jesus El Pifico, a garlic-eating, stinking little yellow, greasy fascist bastard catholic spaniard." (A Spaniard in the Works, p.14).

Lennon also made that infamous statement, "Christianity will go, it will vanish and shrink. I needn't argue about that. I'm right and will be proved right. . . .We're more popular than Jesus now." (San Francisco Chronicle, April 13, 1966, p.26)

Ray Coleman quotes John Lennon as saying, "I've sold my soul to the DEVIL." (Coleman, Ray, Lennon p.256)

I guess its okay to run Christ into the ground as long as you make good music. You have a choice to choose what you like, what you listen to, what you watch on TV. I guess that would be the same as saying, you don't have a choice in what sins you commit, you commit them because you have to.

I haven't specifically verified the other quotes, but I know the "fact" below is a complete fabrication:

I had accepted this lie as truth for many years until I ran across a copy of this book at a used book store. There is a character names "Jesus El Pifico" in the book, but in no way is the character compared to Jesus Christ or is an allusion to Jesus Christ. Anyone who has spent five minutes with the book would know that. For more information: Wiki article

Since your source has promoted such a blatant falsehood, the rest of the "quotes" are highly suspect and must be considered unreliable until proven true.

I heard them repeat the same things in an interview with a reporter, of course they replaced bastard with faggot. I guess they changed thier view slightly.

If you would like to defend these people, be my guest. I imagine you think you are doing wise and being the better man for standing up.

You don't believe Jesus El Pifico was an allusion to Jesus the Christ so then all of the other quotes are suspect? The other quotes are not unreliable. The SF Chronicle quote is so popular and well known and John Lennon even apologized for it (sort of). The Ray Coleman quote can be found on Amazon (though I found it on page 348 not 256). There is no rational explanation for why you folks defend these God haters save for the fact you must be under their influence. I would challenge you Beatles defenders to fast from rock and roll for a period and then see if you continue to defend those that are opposed to Christ.

I remember that quote of Lennon from my fundamentalist music class years ago, and I believed it, because as sick and wierd as he was, who knows what he would say. Yet now, it is becoming clear that that was yet another urban lengend created by snatching something out of context, and probably grabbed by the likes of AV611.org and circulated amongst the traditional music only crowd.

Anyway, "speaking of the devil" :D there is a new Paul McCartney album that has just come out (probably today, since albums come out on Tuesdays) and started advertising today. Funny, isn't it?

IMO, you got the right band, wrong album.
Revolver was perhaps the greatest rock album of all time, at least IMO.

Regards - enjoyed seeing your post,

You guys can love the Beatles all you want to and tell the rest of us how great they are and how crazy we are, that's fine with me. But I do have just one quesiton, you guys are in leadership roles in the church are you?

Sorry, I gotta correct you. Rubber Soul is the best Beatles' record, but the greatest record of all time is Bob Dylan's "Blood on the Tracks".

I wouldn't count on it. Just like a lot of Baptists who are officially listed on church membership rollls but only attend at Christmas and maybe Easter, there are probably not a few BB members who don't attend church on a regular basis either or are "between churches."

You know this is good PR for the Beatles when folks gotta knock em down. The more they are mentioned for there evil ways the more popular they will be and it is all because of you gotta knock some one down to make your self look good.
    How Christian is that?

In my Church, we don't talk about the Beatles since they aren't that important,
we do however do a lotta talkin about Jesus.
Some of us have grown up since the days of the Beatles, we know they had good music and bad music, we have put it in perspective and have moved on and no longer dwell on the past.

The Beatles don't need anymore PR than they've already got, if you recall they're "more popular than Jesus".

No one on this thread is knocking down your idol so that he or she can look good. We are warning you to flee from this idol for they are wicked little insects that will eat away at your spirit if you don't get 'em out of your head.

Well, I have all three, and love each of them (my deep love for Mr. Zimmerman is well known and well stated), but IMO Revolver is still the greatest rock album of all time. Many people agree with me:

    http://users.skynet.be/stones/news/01052000.htm

    http://archives.cnn.com/2000/SHOWBIZ/Music/09/04/britain.albums/index.html
[Note: don't get me wrong, I love Radiohead, but come on: the second greatest album? No chance.]

Do a search, and most lists will agree that it is the greatest ever.

    This is a fun discussion!

BTW, I just read a good book about the album Blood on the Tracks.

    Regards,
    BiR
