I don't have the time now to detail the phrases . I will do that in a day or two . For the time being I will say that I looked at the footnotes of the HCSB and noted 55 items where it listed the literal rendering , of course not putting it in the text . I just took it up to the 15th chapter , verse 15 . In the ESV 16 of those literal renderings were in the text itself . In the NASU 21 . In the TNIV only 5 . But you know what ? " What ? " Well I'll tell you , if you'll just wait ! Even though the NASU had more than 5 times the literal renderings than the TNIV -- the NASU failed ( if you want to call it that ) . 21 out of 55 is failing . And the ESV's mere 16 does even worse . The TNIV must be better than the HCSB because the TNIV puts 5 of the HSCB's literal footnote citings in its text -- the HCSB puts zero of them in the text . I am being silly . I highly appreciate the HCSB . It had good reasons not to put those literal wordings in the text itself . A lot of the expressions put across in a stiff formal way would not be translating very well . So I will compare about 36 or so phrases in both the ESV and TNIV soon enough .
