It was explained in my first post. The sorrow of the world results in death. That's what Paul said, anyway, and I agree with him.

A person who is lost is already dead no matter what a song does.

A person who is saved is alive no matter what a song does.

The song points to Jesus.....She is not a preacher...far better than,
Beat me daddy with a 4x2
Rub my back with a brick,,yea, yea , yea,
Get me home by half of eight
Or mother will have a fit.

    Sing on, girl...love your efforts,

    Cheers,

    Jim

Why would it be wrong to sing a song that doesn't go into the details of the Gospel?

Yippee! Y'all can take a magic marker and black out 2 Corinthians 7:10. David has shown us that it's a spurious admonition.

2 Corinthians 7:10 "Godly sorrow brings repentance that leads to salvation and leaves no regret, but worldly sorrow brings death"

I don't see how this proves your point. Paul is talking about the sorrow that brings a person to repentance for salvation.

How does the song in question relate to this verse? So are you saying that hearing Carrie Underwood sing Jesus take the Wheel will lead people away from Godly repentance and leads them to death?

Maybe some should mark out this one as well.
1st Peter 3:15-16 says "But in your hearts set apart Christ as Lord. Always be prepared to give an answer to everyone who asks you to give the reason for the hope that you have. But do this with gentleness and respect, keeping a clear conscience, so that those who speak maliciously against your good behavior in Christ may be ashamed of their slander."

My first time ever discussing anything on line so bare with me. Im saved, and I know that I am; I'm Baptist cause I'm Smart. I'm not saved cause I'm Independent Fundamentalist Baptist, but by God's amazing Grace is that indeed I'm gloriously saved. I was called to preach 3years ago and have since failed misserably at trying to do so. Maybe not so much failed, but really havent applied myself to do so. I need your prayers and critizism to help in letting God have his perfect will. Thank you adn God bless!

Not everyone sitting in the pew may give the absolutely right answers, or phrase everything just so, especially the teens.

This girl is young, and her songs are written for her. I heard her speaking in an interview about how she came to Christ at an early age. She also said that she doesn't always do the right things, but she tries, as does her family. I respect that, and fully understand. Lord help us, I know a lot of preachers who don't always say the right things, even though they mean well, and I accept that.

We can be too petty at times, and we must allow some latitude along the way. Didn't even Peter fail a few times and had to be corrected?

Johnny Cash had a brilliant working testimony, but a few of his songs are questionable and even included a few curse words, but it does not negate his beliefs and what he did in his lifetime to minister to others. I will take the good and discard the bad any day. God bless their earnest efforts to exhalt the Saviour.

    Cheers,

    Jim

I think its great that she would sing anything that would allude to Jesus in a secular venue. So many folks aint gonna be sitting in our pews. ANd Victory in Jesus just doesnt get everyone right in the ticker. Its the Holy Spirit that does that, and He can sure use even a secular song if He wants to.

See you in hell, itsy bitsy spider! Right beside the little drummer boy.
Aaron, sometimes I think thou goest a bit far. Your intentions may be pure, but the result of such legalistic views as I've seen you present and back up with non-related scripture is in itself misleading and thus not of Christ

The sorrow expressed in the song is not true repentance. It's worldly sorrow, but it's being confused with godly sorrow. That's the danger.

I agree. The Holy Spirit can even use the name of Jesus in a secular song to bring someone to repentance and faith.

How do you know this? How can you determine what the Lord is going to use to bring someone else to repentance?

Why do we continually try to put God in a box and determine for Him how He is going to act?

    Isaiah 55:8-11

8 "For my thoughts are not your thoughts,
neither are your ways my ways,"
    declares the LORD.

9 "As the heavens are higher than the earth,
so are my ways higher than your ways
and my thoughts than your thoughts.

10 As the rain and the snow
    come down from heaven,
and do not return to it
    without watering the earth
and making it bud and flourish,
so that it yields seed for the sower and bread for the eater,

11 so is my word that goes out from my mouth:
It will not return to me empty,
but will accomplish what I desire
and achieve the purpose for which I sent it.

I could never put my God in a shoebox. The greatest fear I have is that someone would try to do that and pretend to be a theologian.

I hear it all the time when I say I am Anglican...instantly they want to get me "saved". I just smile, and walk on.

    Cheers,

    Jim

It is an awesome song and while it does not present every detail of the gospel the idea behind the song, that we need Jesus’ help, is Biblical.

Some like Aaron will not hear the message because it does not fit into their theological box of what is good. Others will not hear the message because they are lost and blind to spiritual things. But to those with ears to hear it is a great biblical message. I hope she sells a million albums. I think I will go buy one myself.

How do you know this? </font>[/QUOTE]That's also explained in my first post.

How can you determine what the Lord is going to use to bring someone else to repentance?

Quit reading things into my posts. I'm judging the song. Just as you are, except that you're judging it as good because you have good feelings about it, I'm judging it as evil because of the doctrine.

Why do we continually try to put God in a box and determine for Him how He is going to act?

Honestly, isn't this just a way of sanctifying the ignorance of God's ways? I'm judging the song itself, but you're making this into something else. Yes, God's ways are not our ways by nature, but we are responsible to know His ways and to walk in them. The ignorance of His ways surely leads to death.

Wherefore I was grieved with that generation, and said, They do alway err in their heart; and they have not known my ways. So I sware in my wrath, They shall not enter into my rest. Heb. 3:10 & 11

Take my yoke upon you, and learn of me; for I am meek and lowly in heart: and ye shall find rest unto your souls. Matt. 11:29

If we are born of God, we will do the works of our Father. His ways must become our ways. In fact, the more you know someone, the better able you are to predict what He will do in certain situations. It's the same with the knowledge of God. All discussions about morality and purpose are really discussions about the knowledge of God. And if the knowledge God's ways really is hidden then what good is the Bible or of anyone behind the pulpit?

Art thou a master of Israel, and knowest not these things?

So, you don't get to hide behind the "God in a box" subterfuge. It isn't a valid rebuttal. The ignorance of God's ways will destroy a man.

Of course not, no rebuttal is ever valid to you.

The fact that all of the other songs on the CD are not pointing to God at all gives me the impression that this song will only be a feel good song for the country music fans. They will sing it, sure. But the words will not have the impact they would if the album was all gospel.
