And just think of Christians TODAY in China rotting away in prisons and many suffering torture. Their best life now? I think they would agree with Paul, "to die is gain".

I have one word for the health/wealth crowd: Lazarus (Luke 16)

    1. Any good doctrine that may be present in that church is left over from his formerly Baptist father. I used to watch his father - he was charasmatic, but he had a good command of the Bible for a charasmatic.

    2. It doesn't really matter what their statement of faith says -we're talking about the words (or lack thereof) that come out of his mouth.

    3. He's attractive and charming, and his words make us feel good - RESIST IT!

LE, on the video he apparently will not say it, but puts hope in something else.

no heres the thing we are commanded to fellowship with other believers that doesnt mean we have to attend church if you go by the verse you quoted I get so tired of people saying we are commanded to go to church when we really arent we are told to fellowship with other believers whether it be a bible study or even an evening out to dinner with other believers.

I'd prefer not to base anything about Joel Osteen by what Hank says on his site. Check this out, he's not exactly white as the driven snow...

    http://www.rapidnet.com/~jbeard/bdm/Psychology/cri/law.htm

    To each his own.

I'll go on believing God's promises which say by His (Jesus) stripes I am healed, ask and I shall receive, knock and it shall be opened unto me, my God shall supply all my needs according to His riches in Glory, and countless others. Have a happy life. (oops, maybe I shouldn't say that....)

Like Osteen, you have taken these "promises" out of context and applied them to having, as you call it, a "happy life" (except for God supplying our NEEDS).

I see lawsuits which don't mean a hill of beans. If there was any criminal activity, then I think the law would have gotten involved which it didn't. Also, that information is over 13 years old - that's pretty deep digging.

Besides, what does that have to do with the facts of Joel Osteen and his false teaching?

Hey, you're the one who brought up Hank's web site, I didn't. You can believe JO has false teaching and others don't believe he does. So like I said, to each his own.

One of these days some of JO's harshest critics may go through a valley of despair over some personal tragedy and need some flicker of hope to brighten their day and find themselves tuning in. Life is strange like that. :godisgood:

On the flip side. Some church oppress the people rather than disciple them.

So many churches today are program churches rather than building the church according to the gifts given them.

I agree. But the thing to have is a scriptural balance. Two opposite extremes do not make a balanced middle.

That's all right as long as you are not committing self-delusion, and you understand that the stripes of Jesus healed our broken relationship with God, ask and you shall receive any thing you ask according to His will, knock and it shall be opened but usually we don't know what "it" is until the door is already open and can't be closed, and God shall supply all your needs within the context of you being content in whatsoever state you are, whether abounding or abased.
I wish you well dear lady.

    Osteen preaches another gospel

Then Peter, filled with the Holy Spirit, said to them, "Rulers of the people and elders, if we are being examined today concerning a good deed done to a crippled man, by what means this man has been healed, let it be known to all of you and to all the people of Israel that by the name of Jesus Christ of Nazareth, whom you crucified, whom God raised from the dead--by him this man is standing before you well. This Jesus is the stone that was rejected by you, the builders, which has become the cornerstone. And there is salvation in no one else, for there is no other name under heaven given among men by which we must be saved."
    (Acts 4:8-12)

As I said before, the likes of Joel Osteen shouldn't take us by surprise. They are coming and they will keep coming.
