Has anyone seen him since he has made a "come back"?

I happened upon one of his church displays last night. Dear God, help us all.

He was the leader of a bunch of weight lifters and strong men. They were highly involved in TBN. They put forth a "christian motivational" message and used breaking bricks, bats, handcuffs, ice to gain an audience of mostly young people to share their message with. The message was gospel lite and more of the getting what you need from God, rather than coming to God with a humble heart. I would not let the kids in our church anywhere near him.

I did not hear why he left for a while. Does anyone know the reason he left the air and the Power Team?

If this was a group that went around to youth rallies, then I think I know who it is. Thanks for the info, Bro Tony.

In the case of what I have heard Jacobs and the Power Team say, it is lite on repentance, lite on discipleship, lite on dealing with personal sin. It is heavy on emotionalism, showmanship, getting people hyped up so they will respond any way you want them to. The Power Team was a lot of noise that said little of substance.

    Bro Tony

BTW---Most of what he taught was the same rehashed garbage that you find on TBN.

I once saw the power team in an AOG church and thought that it was pretty good. The focus of the power team is on training for the goal. I thought that would actually please some of you that oppose "easy believism" ???

I've seen them once, too. While the air was heavy with emotion, the message and testimony presented was far from "gospel-lite." As a matter of fact, it was much the opposite - at least on the night I attended.

John got a divorce. That and some other personal problems was the primary reason the Power Team kind of dissappeared for a while.

Most of the Power Team Participants ended up in a similar themed ministry called Team Impact.

I have participated in two very similar campaigns from a church support standpoint. The first was a "Power Team" event and to be quite frank, was not all that much "fun", there were some egos that were just about the same size as the bodies on the platform.

The second was a Team Impact event. Those guys were great. If your church does sponsor an event like this, you have to be prepared to disciple a large group of kids.

Team Impact was made of the group (to start with) that left when John Jacobs got a divorce. I have met several of them and they are fantastic, compassionate guys.

I ran across John Jacobs this week. I like this kind of stuff, but I had to bite my tongue on this one.
