Ohio Governor Defies G.O.P. With Defense of Social Safety Net
    By TRIP GABRIEL

COLUMBUS, Ohio — In his grand Statehouse office beneath a bust of Lincoln, Gov. John R. Kasich let loose on fellow Republicans in Washington.

“I’m concerned about the fact there seems to be a war on the poor,” he said, sitting at the head of a burnished table as members of his cabinet lingered after a meeting. “That if you’re poor, somehow you’re shiftless and lazy.”

“You know what?” he said. “The very people who complain ought to ask their grandparents if they worked at the W.P.A.”

    [..]

Last week he circumvented his own Republican legislature and its Tea Party wing by using a little-known state board to expand Medicaid to 275,000 poor Ohioans under President Obama’s health care law.

Once a leader of the conservative firebrands in Congress under Newt Gingrich in the 1990s, Mr. Kasich has surprised and disarmed some former critics on the left with his championing of Ohio’s disadvantaged, which he frames as a matter of Christian compassion.

He embodies conventional Republican fiscal priorities — balancing the budget by cutting aid to local governments and education — but he defies many conservatives in believing government should ensure a strong social safety net. In his three years as governor, he has expanded programs for the mentally ill, fought the nursing home lobby to bring down Medicaid costs and backed Cleveland’s Democratic mayor, Frank Jackson, in raising local taxes to improve schools.

Compassionate conservatism ... something I could support.

OK, so it's fine to thwart the will of the people as indicated by the decisions of the legislature, go to a little-known and overly empowered board whose members are appointed by this same governor, who then asks them to unilaterally violate the will of the people and expand Medicaid in direct contravention of the legislature??

Really? That's your idea of "compassionate conservatism"? That's your idea of "democracy"? I've news for you: That isn't legal, it isn't the way it works in this country.

Fortunately, it probably isn't going to stand for long. A lawsuit has been filed.

Someone call Kasich and tell him its time to renounce his conservative credentials and join the socialist movement that he has chosen to side with on this issue.

Another example of your false idea that there is a difference between Democrats and Republicans. It is just another step in moving us along the path of not being accountable for our own lives, and earning our own way. Kasich can join McConnell, Pelosi, Reid, and Bonheur in dumbing down America to depend on government at the expense of what one can do for their own life's destiny.

    Ann Coulter Says...

"Three and a half years after Obamacare passed without a single Republican vote, anyone who can't see a difference between the parties should be institutionalized."

Like your theology and historical knowledge, you do not have the moral authority to judge anyone, slime ball. Aside from never lifting one finger to serve this nation, you, Ann Coulter, Nancy Pelosi, Harry Reid, Mitch McConnell, Speaker Bonehead, Obama and the rest should be handcuffed together and institutionalized.

The very fact you would use Ann Coulter as a standard defines you, a worthless POS. (person of suspect)

Sat/Nep to me: "For the most part we are in complete agreement on theology." 5/29/13

Sat/Nep : to me :"I can do nothing but admire your theology." 5/28/09

Sat/Nep told me that I was well-versed in history on 5/2/13

I was quoting someone. You sure use the term "moral authority" a lot and that I should never judge someone. Yet you do the very thing you condemn --often with not only myself but others.

I went to an on-line dictionary and it gave 94 definitions for POS. "Person of suspect" (an ungrammatical construct) was not listed.

Lying does not serve to commend you Sat/Nep. It certainly is not a biblical quality for a deacon --which you claim you are.

Well, gee, too bad. If you do not like my definition for worthless POS, then use your imagination.

A Portion Of A Verse For You To Implement

Philippians 4:8: "Fix your thoughts on what is true and honorable and right. Think about things that are pure and lovely and admirable. Think about things that are excellent and worthy of praise." (NLT96)

Do not dare tell others how to live with the garbage you post. You are a two faced hypocrite.

Ephesians 4:29 Do not let any unwholesome talk come out of your mouths, but only what is helpful for building others up according to their needs, that it may benefit those who listen.

Colossians 3:8 :But now you must rid yourselves of all such things as these:anger, rage, malice, slander, and filthy language from your lips.

Proverbs 25:28 : Like a city whose walls are broken down is a man who lacks self-control.

Proverbs 29:11 : A fool gives full vent to his anger, but a wise man keeps himself under control.

Look at the contrast of the two quotes above. The first provokes, and the second quotes Bible verses within a few minutes of each other. As I said, a two faced hypocrite.

It certainly does. You have been sowing unrighteousness for quite some time on the BB. You will meet your Maker on that Final Day and have to give a reckoning for your idle remarks.

I am so sorry, think I will join the mourner's bench. You giving lectures on proper speech and morality is like discussing virginity amongst prostitutes.
