I'm doing some research and came across an article by John Piper. I've heard his name but don't know anything about him. What do you know, is he ok?

    Depends upon whom you ask.

    ;)

He has been a popular theologian for most Christians over the last 10 years.

He has moved from the Baptistic distinctives more than I like. But, other than that he is ok.

Doesn't he accept infant baptism at his church now?

His books have been a big hit, but I have perused some of them and I don't seem to get as much out of them as others do. He does a good job of combining doctrinal and devotional language, which is probably his appeal. I prefer my doctrine and devotions separate.

Having said that, I read a post by JArthur recently where he gives Piper's exposition of a passage from I or II Peter which was one of the best expositions I've ever read.

Yes, but not quite . . . his stance (that of his church) does not make sence to me.

John Piper was diagnosed with and underwent surgery for prostate cancer earlier this year. I do not actually know about his condition, but it was thought to have been caught fairly early, and the surgery was thought to have been successful. This was in February, I believe.

I enjoy John Piper's ministry. I would encourage you to check out his ministry website. Here is a bio page from it:

Piper can be best classified as a modern day Puritan. His hero in the faith is Jonathan Edwards. I think Piper is great.

No, the elders decided to not bring that recommendation to the church for a vote. They may do so later, though, but their proposal was a little more narrow than just "accepting infant baptism".

From my understanding, Piper's strong Calvinistic teachings draws many Presbyterians who were baptized as infants. I believe the proposal was to allow such congregants to become members without a rebaptism.

Also very cool is that Piper has made all his excellent books freely available online.

I can't believe they would accept an infant baptism in the same sense as a believers baptism...sad :tear:

Not all, but many, although some are also abridged.
